Gardeners - Need help with house plants/trees

I have questions regarding two types of plants/trees:


PALM TREE:
#1 I have a plam tree - medium sized in the plastic pot that it came in. The pot is horrible - leaks water and dirt all over the place ... I need to get a nice ceramic pot ...how big should the pot be? Should the roots be tight or have room to grow? I know different plants require different pots.
#2 How often should I water the Palm Tree?

RUBBER PLANT:
I have this rubber plant that I repotted and seems to be doing well.
#1 How often should I be watering a rubber plant?

I don't have a green thumb and I'd really like to try to keep them alive if possible!
