First of all .. it really ticks me off that no one in our government seems to think the pricing of gas has gotten way out of hand. Even if there is nothing that can be done about the pricing, I would still prefer that someone in the upper ranks of the government steps up and says this price gouging needs to be looked into. But, of course, with Oil King Bush in office, that's not going to happen.
Second .. what's the cheapest everyone can find for the gas they buy???
Right now, the cheapest I've seen is $2.03 for Regular .. at a gas station I'd be afraid to pull into .. which is why it's probably cheap. The 'cheap' gas station I do frequent is up to $2.09!! They've been raising their price a couple of pennies just about every day.
Now, I know .. a couple of pennies .. big deal, right?? WRONG!! Just about 2 weeks ago, I was paying about $1.87!!!
Hello!! Houston .. we have a problem!

you can thank good old Ronnie Reagan for that one...
he de-regulated the petro industry...
and whenever you get frustrated...just think of me in CA...its $2.30+ (b/c CA needs a cleaner gas additive from all the pollution)

Re: Gas Prices
It's $2.59 for premium in downtown Chicago. We're lucky bc it's $2.34 near where we live, so we make sure we gas up before we go to work.

Re: Gas Prices
The reason why gas is expensive is because supply is outstripping demand. Gas is a natural product, and they think they've pretty much found all of the sources out there for gas that exist in nature.
Not only are people driving cars that are gas guzzlers (you don't want to pay $$ for gas, turn in your SUV and get a car that is more fuel efficient- I have no sympathy for people with SUVs complaining about gas prices- you knew they sucked up gas when you bought them) but we have new international markets that are buying large amounts of gas that never did before: i.e. China. So- larger demand, same amount of supply- simple formula= price going up. I don't think there is anything any politician can do....

I drive a little 1994 Civic. Great on gas When I first got it in 99 I put in 10.00 and it filled it up. Today I put in 10.00 and it gave me a half a tank!

Re: Gas Prices
I don't care what the reasoning is for gas pricing being so high right now .. and I don't care that in comparison to milk, gas is still a bargain .. I don't NEED Milk .. I NEED Gas!!!
The incredible, rapid increase in gas .. ON A DAILY BASIS .. should have someone talking in the government!!! Whenever there are rapid, insane increases in pricing .. much like we're seeing in gas .. there's usually investigations. And as for the 1980's comparison, that is garbage, too. People weren't relying as heavily on their cars then as they do now.
Besides, I don't care about prices from the 1980s, I care about them NOW! So even if, relatively speaking, it was worse in the 80s, that does nothing for me now, especially when I need to fill up twice a week .. because of my job's location compared to where I live. I guess it's my fault that I had to move farther out to afford a home .. I should have seen these insane gas prices coming 4 years ago when we moved.
I was on Deer Park Avenue today, and after going past a couple of stations that had REGULAR at $2.19 .. I found a couple of stations a couple of blocks further south that had regular at $2.03 and $2.05
I noticed similar pricing differences on Hempstead Turnpike near Franklin Square and Garden City yesterday.
How is it possible that there can be such big differences in gas prices in such a short drive??????? Shopping around for gas prices just is not right .. but I'm going to get to that point shortly .. of course, I'll have to try to pay attention in my travels, because driving around to find the cheap prices defeats the purpose .. since that takes gas, too!
Deer Park Ave. prices... $2.03 was at BP $2.05 was at Citco $2.19 was at Mobil .. and I forget the other.
And for the record, neither of us drives an SUV.

Re: Gas Prices
What we SHOULD be doing is looking into alternative energy solutions because gas isn't going to be around forever.... and whether or not you don't care the reasons for the increase in gas prices, you have to understand that it is not an infinite supply.

Re: Gas Prices
I have an SUV (yeah, bring on the bashing) and I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to complain about the price per gallon. I don't care if you drive a car that now takes $20 to fill up or one that takes $35 to fill up. It still hurts us all the same. Yes I knew that buying a SUV would cost me more and that I would have to fill it up more often, but did I expect prices to go up to over $2 a gallon?-no way.

Why was mass transit so much better 20 years ago? Were people walking more, riding their bicycles? Please explain.

again, I don't understand. Are you questioning why prices fluctuate from station to station? Should every gas station charge the same price for gas? Where would the competition be in that? Ya know, at Stop n Shop an Old El Paso Taco Kit was $3.50 , but at Walmart it was only $2.07.
Maybe this will help you from driving around with road rage trying to find the cheapest gas.
i am p.o.d because a sso as I decide to lease a truck the prices have gone up!!! its ridiculous!!! dont get me started!!!
