A few weeks ago I posted that I was looking for car insurance. Well I finally decided on Geico. They offered me the best premium. Every other company wanted over $2300. to insure me for the year and Geico is doing it for less than $1800.
My moms broker just warned me and told me not to cancel my Travelers insurance yet because Geico gives quotes first and then runs reports and they sometimes change your premium after you already sign with them?
What I want to know is if this is legal? and if this really happens? Should I be ok to cancel my Travelers insurance or should I wait a few weeks before I do? Now I dont know if I should just cancel it, and maybe this broker was trying to scare me or should I just wait.....and give Gieco a few weeks. I dont want to get stuck paying for two insurance bills next month.
Next month after I move into Bellmore, The woman At Geico told me to call back and my premium will go down a little bit more.

Re: Geico Car Insurance
Are you currently insured with Geico?
I mean in correlation with Traveller's?

Re: Geico Car Insurance
We use geico car insurance. The FI has used them forever and they have never changed the price from the original quote. Was this broker trying to scare you into buying a more expensive plan??

Re: Geico Car Insurance
I have Geico, and they quote you as accurately as possible. I've never had a problem with them upping the premium after the fact. But it also depends on whether or not you gave them all the correct information.
Good luck!

Re: Geico Car Insurance
I gave them all the correct information. Right now I have Travellers insurance, and the policy ends on june 29th. Do you think I will be ok if I cancel my current car insurance on the 29th...Or If I will be ok if I call them now to cancel on the 29th? Thanks...Im so confused now.

Re: Geico Car Insurance
I switched to Geico last year and, at first, I was really skeptical because they gave me such a low quote, but they haven't changed it at all. I used to pay like $2300/year with my other company and now I pay $1200. I think as long as you gave them accurate info, you should be okay.

Re: Geico Car Insurance
Geico told me that you get no discounts whatsoever by having car insurance with them, as well as homeowners (Travellers). It shouldn't make a difference in your auto quote if you cancell Travellers or not.

Re: Geico Car Insurance
what they quote you is what the rate will be... now if you 'Lie' to them and they run a report and find out otherwise then maybe there would be a rate adjustment due to new facts.... but i doubt you'd experience that...
I do know that travelers charges higher premiums than other companies... whereas geico has certain ways to save money and pass it along to the customer...

Re: Geico Car Insurance
I've been with Geico for three years or so, no problems at all. What they quoted was what it has been for all three years, and only went down, because I took the defensive driving course.

Re: Geico Car Insurance
It has been a couple of years since I had car insurance on Long Island but when I did, Tri-state was cheaper then Geico.

Re: Geico Car Insurance
Geico gave me the cheapest rate out of all the insurance companies. I think it was about a $600 difference. I am still waiting for my broker to get back to me to tell me why my premium went up $500 this year. It has been 2 weeks. Now I am going to call her and cancel my insurance for After June 29th...when the new year starts.
Do you think I should wait or do you think it is ok to do this right now?
Also will I have to call my broker or can I go right through Travelers to Cancel. My broker is horrible. They never return calls....
Thanks, Scott

Re: Geico Car Insurance
Scott did you try Tri-State? Yes you can cancel travelers on your own just tell them your broker never gets back to you. I would get a new broker...

Re: Geico Car Insurance
I switched to Geico about 2 years ago and my insurance cut LITERALLY in half!!!! Now every six months when I get my insurance info, my rates are LOWER! The longer you go with a clean driving record, the more the lower your rates.
I am fairly sure that my first rate was within $50 of my original on line quote! If you give accurate info there is no reason it should change.
About 8 years ago my dad was in an accident with a man who had Geico, the accident was his fault, he ran a stop sign. Geico was GREAT with fixing my dads car and getting us a loaner for the duration of the work.

Re: Geico Car Insurance
Now what happens if you get into a car accident and you are covered by Geico...Is it true that Geico will drop you? I heard this from someone and I didnt know if it was true. Scott

Re: Geico Car Insurance
I've had Geico for almost 9 years. I've been in a few accidents and I was never dropped. I've had nothing but a positive experience with them.

Re: Geico Car Insurance
I tried looking for travelers phone number, and they only have the claims number listed and that is useless to me...so I guess I will have to call my crappy broker

Re: Geico Car Insurance
Scott,
Geico is AWESOME. I have had them for over 5 years with never a problem! They have gone above and beyond for us! And have been more than fair when my car was totalled! (not my fault by the way).
You have nothing to worry about.
As a matter of fact, this August I will be with them for 5 years and I am entitled to a rate adjustment of up to 25%! :) Can't wait to call and have them reevaluate my policy! :)
Good luck!
