Geico Car Insurance

Original post by Danielle&Scott

A few weeks ago I posted that I was looking for car insurance. Well I finally decided on Geico. They offered me the best premium. Every other company wanted over $2300. to insure me for the year and Geico is doing it for less than $1800.

My moms broker just warned me and told me not to cancel my Travelers insurance yet because Geico gives quotes first and then runs reports and they sometimes change your premium after you already sign with them?

What I want to know is if this is legal? and if this really happens? Should I be ok to cancel my Travelers insurance or should I wait a few weeks before I do? Now I dont know if I should just cancel it, and maybe this broker was trying to scare me or should I just wait.....and give Gieco a few weeks. I dont want to get stuck paying for two insurance bills next month.

Next month after I move into Bellmore, The woman At Geico told me to call back and my premium will go down a little bit more.

Re: Geico Car Insurance

I LOVE GEICO!!! Not only are they a great company to deal with, they are soooooooooooo freaknig cheap, it's crazy. We never experienced a rate change--only when we took the defensive driving it went down a lot and then also, when we get married, we are going to save over $500 a year

The only thing that i will say is that be careful, because if you have too many claims or accidents (your fault or not) they tend to drop you realllllly quickly and easily. this has happened to people I know. they will drop you like a lead balloon! but they have the best rates around.

I know about 6 people who work for Geico - they all say that they have the lowest rates around and are good as long as you maintain an excellent driving record - but if you have a problem they say watch out - they will be a big rate increase or get dropped (some of them won't insure with geico for their own cars if that says anything)

If you gave Geico all your info like SS# and driver lic# and all the other info necessary, the quote they gave you should be very accurate and not change at all. FI and I switched from State farm to them about 4 mos. ago, and no joke I alone saved $2,400. I am very happy with them and they have really great customer service.

Re: Geico Car Insurance

Well I called my broker and told them I will not be renewing for next year. They asked why and I told them that I am switching to Geico because they were able to save me $600. I also told them that I was fed up with the lack of respect that I have gotten from the broker. I have called and have been told they will call back and I have never received a call back. Each year when it comes time to renew I have experienced the same lack of respect, and I had enough. The woman apologized and I told her it is not her fault. So anyway...she tells me she will send me a form that I need to sign and send back, and then I will not have coverage from travelers anymore.

Five minutes later I get a call from the owners daughter saying that She has an excellent new insurance company for me that I should try out. She says that they have known about this company for the past few weeks. So I ask her if all the people there knew about this company, and she proceeds to tell me that they do. So I said then why didnt they tell me about this company 2 weeks ago when I was calling and trying to find cheaper insurance? She said who did you speak to, So I told her and she said she didnt know why that person didnt tell me. She tells me if I want to be insured with this company I will be able to save $1300. I tell her that it sounds great and everything, but Honestly I dont think I will do business with your fathers company again. I have not been very happy with the lack of respect that I have been receiving from the brokers there. I said I know it is not your fault, and that you are trying to make things better, but it is way too late. I told her I have been using their services for the past 3 years and I havent been happy at all for the whole time. I told her the guy that recommended me cancelled with them for the same reasons that I am cancelling with them. She said that she is sorry she couldnt help me and asked if it would be ok if she called me in 6 months. I said yes it would be fine. End of call.

5 minutes later my cell phone rings and it is the owner of the broker...this girls dad. He is very upset that I am not using their services anymore, and he tells me that I should try out Hartford Insurance company because they can really give me a good deal. I tell them I already signed up for Geico and I am happy with the deal I got with them. He then asks if I plan to take the defensive driving class again, and I tell him that I am going to take it after I get married in august...So he says, something to think about is that we offer the class to our members for free...So he can save me $35...wooptee doo. I tell him that it is too late. I told him if I was treated differently in the past then I would have no problem dealing with them again. He said I understand....and that was it....I was waiting for my phone to ring one last time, but it didnt....

Sorry so long....

sheesh! why don't they do this when you were a customer already?? the same thing happened when i switched from Kemper (rip-off, rip-off) to Tri-State. I called Kemper to stop service and they got all 'well, what can we do to help you save $$, blah blah blah'. i just said no thank you, i'm sick of paying almost $300 a month so i'm out of here. i totally get your frustration.

I don't understand why they didnt do this when I was calling them to reconfigure my premium. The kept telling me that I was rated on a high level and there was no way of lowering it. Really wierd that they wouldnt think of this before I cancelled service.

I also cannot figure out how they are successful in business when they don't call any of their clients back when they say they are going too. I know if it was my business I would be a better business man.

Oh well what can you do...I dont want to mention the name of the broker here, but if you are interested in knowing who it is, you can fm me. I will tell you they are located in valley Stream.
