Does anyone work for Geico here? I was looking on their website and wondering about applying, but before I did I figured i would see about feedback from present or past employees.

Has anyone worked for them or currently work for them?
Thanks,
Scott

Scott- you won't find anyone who works for Gieco on here during work hours... they have VERY STRICT internet rules over there - almost every site is blocked. They are not allowed to do anything personal on work hours... phone calls and emails included! I have a few friends that work there and it is very strict.
BUT
My friends do love working there. They have all been there for at least 4-5 years.

It IS very strict. My dad has been working there (he retired from his long-time job and wanted something to do, he was going to work part time but he's full time). He LOVES it. The impression I get from him is that they are treated very well. He answers phones (not that it's easy) and that's all he plans to do since he'll just stay a couple more years. I know he's been very pleased with the money he got from profit sharing. I can ask if he knows of any openings.

As someone stated up above, (oh and MYSELF too) these seem to be generated by companies that have direct customers...Businesses that want to keep a good reputation.

I've only worked (and interviewed) for high profile investment companies...What do they care if Joe Schmoe sends his resume in??? And what do they care if he never gets a call from them? Mostly they end up in the garbage...
I know what Redhead does...And I can imagine that the kinds of places where she would work would feel the same way...They don't owe anything to applicants the same way say a retail company might feel like they owe something to applicants...

I have never gotten a rejection letter. I understand that they should tell you 'no, we're not interested' if you call to check on the status, but a letter, nope, they don't owe you that. And they don;t owe you a phone call to say they are going with someone else. Companies, especially LARGE ones don;t have the time to respond to every single application they recieve or every applicant that comes in. Companies like Geico or a larger firm receive and review hundreds of resumes a day. I know my company does.

I applyed there. Went for 2 interviews and they never called me back didn't even send me a letter that I wasn't hired. When I called I was hung up on. Very unprofessional!

The same exact thing happened to my brother!!!

Im not saying i should have gotten a call to say you s*ck we don't want you. Im saying I went for 2 interviews and they said we will be in touch. When I call to check the status don't hang up on me either.

Re: GEICO Question

just thought I'd throw this cracker into the pantry:

I have a client who was SUED and she could have prevented the lawsuit by simply sending a rejection letter.

A woman faxed her resume to my client. My client threw it in the garbage (which was a bad thing to do because the law requires that ALL resumes be kept on file for 1 year---YES, companies do this, but there are some out there that break the law and simply toss unsolicited resumes)

ANYWHO, the woman who faxed the resume sued alleging discrimination because her resume revealed that she was a female, as well as her age (because she wrote the year that she graduated college and it was in the 1960's, so that 'makes her' over 40, and she also revealed her religious background because she listed her membership in a religiously affiliated club)

My client was audited and could not produce the resume (which was supposed to be on file! But, she threw it in the garbage instead). She lost the lawsuit. But, a simple 'no thank you' would have helped the situation because it would have said that she was keeping the resume on file for 1 year (which is what she was required to do)...

Here are just a few of the companies that send no thank you letters:

Smuckers
ADP
Paychex
The Limited Inc. (all divisions)
IBM
MICROSOFT
JOHNSON AND JOHNSON
SE JOHNSON
THE CONTAINER STORE
Verizon
AT&T

I could go on and on...the bottom line is that it is a REALLY good idea to send out those no-thank you letters

Re: GEICO Question

My best friend works there and he LOVES it. He says it's agreat place to work and they're hiring. I filled out the online application and they emailed me to ask me to come in to do some pre-employment stuff (they have a walk-in HR center) but I knew it wasn't for me right now because you need 100% attendance your first 6 mos and with my back and everything I can't count on that

Re: GEICO Question

I have been sent rejection letters from around 90% of the school districts I've interviewed with. Do they have customers? No - but it's repsectful and in good taste. I took the time to research their district, send a resume, drive to their district and interview. The least they could do is send a form letter rejection letter!
