gel tips or acrylic?

I've finally given into the fact that if I want my nails to look good, I have to get fakes. Does anyone have any advice on whether I should get gel or acrylics and what the pros and cons of each are??

I get silk wrap...I am too rough with my nails the gels broke too often...

They look really good!! I'm going to give the gels a shot and see how it goes and how well they hold up for me.
Now I just have to decide if I want the permanent French or the regular white tips.

thanks...mine are perm french...they are so much easier to maintain and you dont get chips!

Can you still polish over them if you want?

yeah I usually get a 1 layer of a clear coat or a light pink or white

If maybe you get regular manicures, always keep polish on them, and one important thing is for them to be filed right your natural nails might grow...maybe use nailtique or one of those nail growing things someone else can recommend.

I haven't worn fake nails since HS, and always let me natural nail grow

Your nails are beautiful!! I have tried everything-- Nailtiques, vitamin supplements, prenatal viamins, gelatin, weekly manicures-- and NOTHING works. And I've never been a nail biter, I just have crappy nails!

well they yeah get uv gels or silk wrapping, and yes your nails can be short to get silk wrapping...When ive broken a nail my mom has used silk wrapping to make a WHOLE nail out of it and you would never be able to tell, it completely broke off and then the silk wrapped nail was just as long as the others

Its so great that your mom can fix your nails! I'm going to try the gels out and see how it goes.

I acutally have gotten acrylic wraps for years.. I love them .. they hardly break especially since I am very rough with my hands..

Don't mind the pudgy fingers LOL

My nails were horrible too...but Denise is right....even if you have crappy nails just keep getting manicures like every week and your nails will be beautiful!
