gel tips or acrylic?

I've finally given into the fact that if I want my nails to look good, I have to get fakes. Does anyone have any advice on whether I should get gel or acrylics and what the pros and cons of each are??

i have gels - love them!

i never had tips, they started the gel when my nails were short and they grown out with the gel! The gel lasts and it looks very natural

i think its also more gentile - they dont really use the sander thing, more just a regular file so it doesnt ruin your real nails!

try something else besides acrylic first, they really do weaken your nails, not good for you at all.

I don't go to korean nail salons, and if you go to all the other big named salons in the city they don't even do acrylic...many will offer it but i know people who for YEARS work in these salons and NOBODY ever came in asking for acrylic nails. Or not even big named but more upscale european salons.

I agree......I really like the gels. Acrylics tend to damage my nail bed and make my nails very weak.

Thanks for the advice. I used to get acrylic years ago and was never really happy with it, so I'm going to try the gel. My nails are already a mess, so the last thing I want to do is make them worse!

yeah def try gel and see how they work for you. You don't want to damage your nails

I'm going to make an appt for next week to try them because my e-pics are on 5/29 so they'll look good.

Do you know how often I would need to get fill-ins???

i get mine filled every 2-3 weeks but they grow super fast!

if you are offered UV gel, thats what i get :) try that!

i dont wear fake nails, but i do know most people get it done like every 2 weeks

Thats not bad at all. The place I'm going to offers gels so I'm going to go for it!

Yours look so pretty and our e-rings are really similar so now I know how mine will look!

But don't you need long nails for the silk wraps. I think my nails are too short for it. And I didn't know you could have short nails for the gel tips also. I used to get the acrylic all the time because I thought that was all I could get.

They look really good!! I'm going to give the gels a shot and see how it goes and how well they hold up for me.
Now I just have to decide if I want the permanent French or the regular white tips.

But don't you need long nails for the silk wraps. I think my nails are too short for it. And I didn't know you could have short nails for the gel tips also. I used to get the acrylic all the time because I thought that was all I could get.

thanks...mine are perm french...they are so much easier to maintain and you dont get chips!

I would go with gel tips, no doubt. I had acrylic nails back in HS and my nails were weak, brittle and had dents in them from the constant filing and filling. I am so anti-acrylic now that if I had bad nails, which thankfully I don't, I would be a bride with no nails!

Don't do acrylic. It damages and weakens your nails. Try Silk Wrap.,

I just get regular manicures.
