GET 2 KNOW U- DAILY TOP 5!!! Books.

Original post by Suzanner

What are your fave books? I mean, until all you read was Bride's magazine and contracts? And no, Us Magazine does not count. Although, don't you just love the trashy mags??? Who wore it best!!! And People blows. If I wanted to know about regular people, I'd actually have a conversation with someone. Please.

1. Atlas Shrugged- Ayn Rand. LOVE her. It's a hard read, and truth be told, I skipped the 60 page monologue in the back each of the 15 times I've read this book. But it's still the greatest of all time. However, you will never look at people the same way again. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.

2. The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand. Similar to the above, but it's sort of a primer for Atlas Shrugged. It's a good blueprint for her philosophy. AWESOME book.

3. A Prayer for Owen Meany - John Irving. I had to reread the beginning of this book a million times to finally get into it, and I'm so glad I did. I love John Irving! I will also add to this two more of his- Cider House Rules, and The Hotel New Hampshire.

4. The DaVinci Code- Dan Brown. I know, what a cliche, but I seriously think this is an a$$ kicking book. I enjoyed every minute!

5. The Count of Monte Cristo - Dumas. I love a revenge story, and this is the best ever. Even though it's old, it doesn't matter. What a great story.

6. The Lovely Bones- Alice Sebold. The greatest book I will never read again. I was flying somewhere once, and needed something to read. I roommate suggested this. I asked her if I was going to cry, and she said no. Fast forward a few hours, and I'm borderline hysterical on a window seat of a crowded plane, with no tissues and a serious case of gross face.

7. I Am America and So Can You- Stephen Colbert. I would marry Stephen Colbert right now if the opportunity arose. I just love him to death.

8. Catch 22- Joe Heller. Greatest war book ever. A little wierd, but I think that is what gets his point across.

9. Bridget Jones Diary - Helen Fielding. Am I writing this because I love the movie so much?? Maybe. But I love it. And it bothers me when at the end of that movie, and Zellweger is running after Darcy in her underwear, and she's supposed to be heavy in that movie. She 'packed on the pounds' for it, as they love to say, and meanwhile, any fatty who runs in the snow in those underwear would be jiggling like a jello mold in an earthquake. She did not. So I don't know why I loved that movie so much, except for maybe that her hair looked like crap throughout.

I know I have a million more. I miss reading- it's been too long. I've been drowning in Exclusively Weddings catalogues for too long now.

Re: GET 2 KNOW U- DAILY TOP 5!!! Books.

Ooooh good question!!

1) The Time Traveler's Wife, by Audrey Niffeneger-truly the most beautiful book, although the first 1/3 of the book I was wondering what the hell was going on-but it all comes together...TRUST ME! And I think its gonna be a movie w/ Rachel McAdams

2) The Other Boleyn Girl

3) Angels and Demons (Sorry Suzanner I read this one first and liked it way more than DaVinci!)

4) Popism: The Warhol 60's by Andy Warhol-ummm he's a genius and I love reading from his perspective

5) My Horizontal Life, by Chelsea Handler-holy crap I laughed out loud at so many points in this book..Definitely a funny read.

The 7th (& last) Harry Potter
Twilight
Pride & Prejudice
Dragonlance Chronicles
Freakinomics

Now I feel like a moron because I don't read enough smart books. I'll have to take all of the smart books everyone else listed and make myself a reading list.

The movie probably won't be as good - they never are. Now, I have to find my copy of it and re-read it!

FH has been talking about reading owen meany! he just picked up something else by irving bc he was worried that the christian/simon birch angle would turn him off.

for me? (in no particular order)

* a heartbreaking work of staggering genius by dave eggers
* middlesex by jeffrey eugenides
* 1984 by george orwell
* of mice and men by john steinbeck
* i know this much is true by wally lamb

picking just 5 was tough...list subject to change at any moment.
