Yes FH and I will be getting married at City Hall before our real marriage. I believe in my church you have to be married legally beforehand

thats cool - are you going to do anything special for that day (the day you guys go to city hall)? or do you not count it as being married until you have your ceremony in your church?

so dont make a big deal out of it thats all - it really is just something that your church requires so for you guys its just a piece of paper that you need - i wouldnt consider the deal sealed until your traditional ceremony! i cant wait to see pics - greek ceremonies look really cool and beautiful....ive never been to one but i LOVE the pictures! I feel like the bride and groom look like a king and queen during the ceremony, like they are royalty and it looks so classy! i cant wait to see yours!

I have thought about it, honestly. Fh doesn't have insurance and has a hernia and we were planning on getting it fixed in the spring after the wedding ... but i just found out that my ins co has a 12 month waiting period for pre-existing conditions ... so we may want to get married sooner so that he can get the operation sooner ... i haven't mentioned this to him or anyone, but I do think about it every once in a blue moon ...

I think it would be a little weird -- but I still have the big wedding to look forward to, so not that weird. I mean, when we say i do at our big wedding it would not be as special, i don't think, if we had already done it ... and then which date is really your wedding date??

IDK ...

it depends on how you and FH look at it - i think its fine if you wanted to do it just for the medical benefits - its a piece of paper thats all.....you dont have to exchange vows, and wear wedding rings until your wedding ceremony and that is where you can say that you were officially married....i dont think there is anything wrong with doing that

Re: Getting legally married

my insurance ends the first of the year and I could get his insurance right away if we got married but my parents told us if we did that then they would not pay for the wedding. they r not religous they just believe we should be surrounded by family.
So im going without insurance for 2 1/2 months wish me luck!!!!!!!!

Re: Getting legally married

If me or FH was in the situation, where one of us needed an operation or had health issues, i would 100% of done this. Its so scary cause you never know what could come on suddenly, and those hospital bills are SCARY, I know i would never want to be without insurance, god forbid of an emergency, or an accident, I would be paying hospital bills for the rest of my life. I know one night in a hospital is thousands. Imagine a sugery and a weeks stay, your looking at 60k

I don't know what kinda of insurance you guys or your FHs have...but we found out that as long as we are living together..I can go on his insurance. It's better and cheaper than mine..so I'm just going to change my address to his and switch over this his ins. You guys might want to look into that if it's for insurance purposes.

yes but that is not considered the day you get married - it is not legal until the priest ( or judge ) signs it on your wedding day along with two witnesses. . .

if you actually are getting married then you need the two witnesses the day you go for the license and it is all completed that day and you are considered married.

if you get your marriage license but never go through with the ceremony and never submit it you are NOT considered married.

I am going to get my license the first week in december but i can actually get it in a few days! woohoo

oh and we were SUPPOSED to do it for insurance reasons but then we both kind of freaked out about being legally married but not living together so we decided not to
