I don't know what kinda of insurance you guys or your FHs have...but we found out that as long as we are living together..I can go on his insurance. It's better and cheaper than mine..so I'm just going to change my address to his and switch over this his ins. You guys might want to look into that if it's for insurance purposes.

I think in order to do so you need to prove that you guys are domestic partners and applied for it throught the city. You don't only need to prove that you live together by having your name on the elase, but you also need to show financial dependency such as a bank account together. also, most emplyer don't recognized domestic partnership unless it's a gay couple.

Yes FH and I will be getting married at City Hall before our real marriage. I believe in my church you have to be married legally beforehand

you do, but no more than 30 or 60 days i think. they have you get the license closer to the wedding.

Yeap, around that timeframe.

yeah everybody has to do that, we all have to get our marriage license 30-60 days before

yes but that is not considered the day you get married - it is not legal until the priest ( or judge ) signs it on your wedding day along with two witnesses. . .

if you actually are getting married then you need the two witnesses the day you go for the license and it is all completed that day and you are considered married.

if you get your marriage license but never go through with the ceremony and never submit it you are NOT considered married.

I am going to get my license the first week in december but i can actually get it in a few days! woohoo

oh and we were SUPPOSED to do it for insurance reasons but then we both kind of freaked out about being legally married but not living together so we decided not to

Yeap I know that its just to get the marr license, its not legal until the priest does his thing. Im def having ceremony. (greek orthodox)

yeah ive seen it done actually, Is it where they also bless the rings and do all these other things?

Yeah they bless at the rings at the eparty but the priest blesses the rings at the church ceremony as well. I will have to ask my mom about the city hall thing. My cousin got married at city hall and had witnesses but didnt have a wedding, poor girl got divorced a couple of years later so didnt have a chance to have a wedd

Is getting married at city hall and just getting a marriage license the same??? Do you need witnesses when you get your marr license???

If its b/c of insurance - make sure to check out the insurance companys first. Alot of them are allowing domestic partners - so you dont have to be married just living together (and financially interdependant)

Everybody who is getting married has to go to town hall to get their marriage license. I think you have to get it at the earliest 60 days before your wedding. Getting legally married at city hall is something completely different. You need 2 witnesses and you actually get married. When you get your marriage license you bring it to the person marrying you on your wedding day and they sign off on it as well as 2 witnesses. You aren't considered married until your actual wedding day. HTH.

I asked my HR rep about this, and she said it's only if you are married, but I didn't use the word domestic partner I do not think. I might shoot them an email again ....

Re: Getting legally married

i was considering doing this because we wanted FH's brother to get ordained online to marry us on our wedding day. however there seems to be a lot of controversy as to whether this is legal or not in new york. so, we may consider getting married at city hall a week or two before and then have FH's brother 'marry' us on our wedding day.

so if i want to get legally married way before the 'real 'wedding in december i have to
get the license first .....then i have to go to city hall and have the judge or who ever perform the ceremony with two witnesses and then im married ? i think this is soo confusing
