Father asked us, if were were ever married before, if we're getting married because of a pregnancy. Ummmmmmmmmm, if we're practicing Catholics, meaning do we do church every Sunday. Have we confessed in the past year. That was about it for us.

Mine asked if we were sexually involved. :o) then when we said yes, he said they recommend holding off for 3 months until the wedding to build up suspense for the night of.

Re: Getting Married in Catholic Church Ques?

Do we share the same beliefs about raising lots of Catholic babies

can we list 5 Commandments

do we attend mass

do we pray together daily

do we enter the marriage openly and without force

were we ever married before

have we ever sought mental help from a medical professional or otherwise

Have we ever been involved in a homosexual relationship

Are we good Catholics

and a few more questions about really personal things that made me slightly uncomfortable.

From what I understand, my meeting was not normal for my parish. Maybe because I met with a priest, not a Deacon (like most of my friends), but still...

Whoa!! They really asked a lot of questions! Were you prepared for that? Oh I think I would have turned red for some of those questions.

We were asked just basic questions, baptised, ever married before, that simple type of stuff. And then we had a second meeting with the priest who was going to actually marry us and that was just a really casual dialog to get to know us. We were nervous but it was all really simple and easy going.

Wow, you ladies have had some really detailed/personal questions! Maybe it's just because we haven't finished all of our meetings with my priest, but so far we had our first meeting to do the 'prenuptial investigation' - basic questions like what religion are you both, have you been baptised, confirmed, had first communion, ever married before, are you entering the marriage of your own free will, is the wedding due to a pregnancy, things like that. BASIC questions. In our second meeting we discussed pre-cana and took our FOCCUS test. Third and fourth meeting will take place this month and next month and we'll go over the results of our FOCCUS test. Then we'll meet before the wedding to discuss readings etc.

Our inital meeting was with the priest who will be marrying us. He asked if we were ever married before, baptized and since it is neither of our churches and FH is protestant he told us what he needed (a release letter from my church and fh's baptismal cert.) Told us about pre-cana and how to find out about it and that's it. Nothing personal

AND we were separated for the questions! So we REALLY had to answer honestly, so our answers would match! I was not prepared, especially because none of my friends had to do that.

They stressed if you were ever married before he asked that question in so many different ways. Then he asked general questions like he asked FH where i was born and he asked me where FH was born....nothing too hard.

ETA: they separated us and asked a few questions again nothing too difficult

Wow! That's just one part of the reason why I'm not getting married in a church. I don't think that you should have to feel guilty for living your life as you want to.

MY BM and her husband were separated like that too!!! FH and I were talking about what we'd answer to questions in the car!!!
Luckily, they really didn't ask us anything weird..didn't even ask if we went to church!!

Re: Getting Married in Catholic Church Ques?

He asked if we were there of our free will, if either was non catholic, if we planned on having a family,

This is a good one - If either had ever been under 'pshycatric care' I said like therapy and he said yes. I said no - now I lied to a priest..... great lol
But seriously he made it sound like it was the equivalent to a mental hospital or something. And honestly what if I had been in rehab or something is that something to be ashamed of? I was mad at myself after I lied about that because I was like I dont have to be ashamed of bettering myself through shrinkage? ok rant over

Also asked what faith meant to us - I cant remeber much else because I was mad about the therapy ? lol

Re: Getting Married in Catholic Church Ques?

we were asked...

'why do we think he/she is the one'

'why do you want to get married in a church'

and then we had to answer yes/no questions separately to make sure we are on the same page and the church has something in writing. questions were like 'do you plan to have kids?' 'do you plan to raise your children Catholic'. stuff like that.

It was a little nerve racking I have to say but we liked the priest and I'm glad they challenge you with questions. we are going through pre-cana right now...lots of personal questions but in a good way...gets you talking with FH.

Re: Getting Married in Catholic Church Ques?

When we booked our date we met with the priest and he knows my family so he didn't ask too much- just what religion we are, where FH practices, where were you baptized/holyc ommunication/confirmation.

The priest who is marrying us (not the one we met with) is close to our family- he did my holy communion and confirmation- so he just wants to meet with us before our wedding so he can get to know FH better. Hopefully no awkward questions!!!

My preist didn't really 'ask' us anything. He just discussed some things, but nothing that was personal.

I got a lot of the same questions, too.

Re: Getting Married in Catholic Church Ques?

honestly, all priests ask their OWN questions... I asked people before we went and got all sorts of answers.. and my priest didnt ask 1/2 of the questions i was told he would!

He WILL ask you if you plan on raising your family catholic and probably will ask WHY you are marrying in a catholic church. But remember- the priest is a human just like you and me! Dont be nervous! I loved talking to my priest! I felt at ease once i realized- hey... this guy is just like one of us!

They asked us this too and we answered the same way...though our priest did giggle!
