So now the FH and I are thinking of getting married the day before or on the 4th of July, as it's close to our actual anniversary. Anyone get married on the 4th? Can anyone think of any negatives to getting married on the 4th besides the possibility of it being super hot out? TIF

My grandparents were married on the 4th of July- 60 years ago this year!! They say they had a very hot day, but other than that- no complaints!

Re: getting married on the 4th of july
My FBIL did this and while it was a beautiful wedding they did have a lesser turnout than they expected because they didn't send STDs and sent the invites out only 5 weeks before the wedding and a lot of people had already made plans. FBIL even took back our invite so he could re-send it to someone else
If you do it, just make sure to send STDs and the invites waaaaaaaaay in advance

I am getting married on this 4th of July I agree with those who said to send out STD's...we did and I think it is a good idea due to people traveling/parties, etc....We did not set out on having it on the 4th, it just worked out that way...but we have really grown to like this idea...and as far as the weather, I mean the heat is always a potential problem in the summer, whether it be the 4th or any other day

only downside is people go away, but as long as you send STDs you should be fine. You can do a BBQ rehearsal dinner!

many families have a traditional bbq or go away around that time. BUT FH is a GM in his friend's wedding which is July 5th of this year

I am getting married on the 4th of july. We sent out STD's in September and figure more OOT guests will be able to come due to the hiliday weekend. We also didnt originally plan on this date but it just kinda worked out.
I also dont think the begining of july is that bad heat wise....

people might already have set plans (going away, etc) for the fourth & might not be able to make it to your wedding.

I think what everyone else said is true--sending STDs would be key.....think about it this way, FREE FIREWORKS for your wedding and your anniversary every year!!

The only thing I can think of is that some people might have plans that day, but if you send out STD's I'm sure that the people that really matter would choose your wedding over a barbecue.

FBIL got married at Lombardis on the Sound on 4th of July, and we could see the local fireworks show! It was unbelievable! People thought they had paid for fireworks...they got some really pretty pictures out of it

July 4th would be cool! Especially at a beach RH so you can see fireworks. I know a lot of people that got married on the 4th and they had no complaints!

Yes, a lot of ppl go away that weekend, but since you are not getting married til 2010, you have plenty of time to spread the word, and ppl have plenty of time to change any plans (or make sure not to make plans that weekend) Remember that those that are important to you will be there!

I'm getting married on the 3rd. The minute I booked the date, I told people. And I did send the dates with plenty of time.
