so my MOH was going off on some tangent the other night, tell us about how you have people pay to dance with you at your wedding? each person gets like, 30 seconds to dance with you during a set time at the wedding, but they pay, and that money goes towards your honeymoon. i've never heard of this in my entire life. anyone else know anything about it? or is she just insane?

Re: getting paid to dance?
she said its like a contest between the bride and groom to see who gets more dances and therefore more money. i'm interested to see if anyones has heard of it, or if its just an arizona thing.

Re: getting paid to dance?
My fiance is from Indiana and the dollar dance is popular there. I have seen it done, it is cute. It is nice b/c you get to say hi to most people and it is quick! We were thinking of doing it, not sure yet. Each person usually gives a dollar to dance with the bride or groom.

Re: getting paid to dance?
I've only heard of this once at a Greek wedding that my Aunt went to. She said they got a ton of money! It was all over the floor!!
Any Greek brides know if this is a cultural tradition??

Definitely sounds like the dollar dance.
Basically guests at your wedding pay your $1 or whatever they choose to dance with the Brida and the Groom....its a southern tradition more then NY, IMHO I dont like it, to me your guests come and give you a gift and now you are basically asking them to go into their wallets again. That is just me, our cousin did it at their wedding and Im sure they got alot of money-BUT they also got married in SC and most likely got smaller amounts as far as gifts are concerned
ETA: The Dollar Dance and the money dance in Greek tradition are 2 different things. The Dollar Dance the bride& groomkeep the money, Greek dance the band gets the money

It is, If I remember Penny posted about this, the band plays traditional Greek music and they dance Greek dances and people throw money-THAT money goes to the band no the B&G

Re: getting paid to dance?
My DH confused me talking about this as well many moons ago. He's from Maryland and down there they call it the 'apron' dance because the bride puts an apron on and people put money in the apron when they dance with her. I thought he was crazy when he told me about this....but I just saw it in a friend's wedding photos yesterday
