Getting serious about tipping- what are the 'new' rules- especiall Scotto girls- please help!

Ok, so I know that Maitre D get's tipped (typically $2-$3 per person) but NOW with the 18% SERVICE charge tacked on to my pp count, what is the deal with the GRATUITY for the waitstaff/barstaff etc?

Would people feel comfortable telling me what they tipped the following people:

Bridal Attendant
Waitstaff/bartender
DJ
photo

and if the person PERFORMING the work is the OWNER of the business, did that make a difference?

TIA!

the night of our wedding went great the staff went above and beyond so they all got tipped really well imo.

we gave my bridal attendent about 200$ i know my father tipped her more too.
our matre de i dont even know how much he wound up getting between not knowing my father was tipping people and my 'husband' putting more money in there then i incially put in he probably got for 120 people being at my wedding about 500$

i know my father tipped the wait staff i dunno how much thought

good luck your getting close!!!!

the 18% included in the price goes to cover the waitstaff was my understanding.

My breakdown (approximately)

MD - $3 per person
Bridal Attendant - $75
DJ - $150, Assistant $90
Photographer (who owns their own business) - $350
Limo - $110 (only one limo)

I would also like to know.....

The Carltun told me (and put on paper) that I should tip the Maitre D $7-$10 per person.

I think that is ridiculous....that means I would need to tip $1500-$2000......

See I'm w/ you, esp on the bridal attendant. My bro & his wife gave the bridal attendant $100 & this was 5 years ago & she ran out to their limo as they were pulling away & said they were cheap asses (NO LIE).

I asked Fox Hollow this past Thursday how much to give the bridal attendant, and she said 'around $75'....at most $100...and that's what I'm doing!

ETA: No offense to anyone in the industry, but $100 for 4 hours of work is $25 an hour...and that's just about WHAT I MAKE.

From what I can remember, we tipped:

Bridal attendant $150 or $200 - I added more because she went above and beyond
Maitre d- $3 pp
DJ- I think it was $50 each
We haven't tipped photo yet. We plan on doing it when we recieve our albums.

We didn't tip the rest of the waitstaff because that is what the 18% charge is for.

That's really disgusting. I hope they fired that girl. $75-$100 is about the norm, I believe, for the Bridal Attendant.

Here's what my budget is as of right now:

MD $2pp
Bridal Attd $100
Photo $250 (we also tipped for casual day pics)
Limo $50 (only one for me and MOH)
DJ $150

I do not plan on tipping the bartenders/waitstaff separately b/c I thought that was what the 18% was for. Also, I know my family and FH's family will be tipping their servers and bartenders on their own. It's just what they do....

I also have to tip for hair, makeup, flowers....

If I'm 'wowed' by their service the day of, we can always add more....

I'm sure you ended up giving extra for that. I'm sure I'd adjust it as necessary that evening, but my minimum is at least $75...just a guideline right?

Thanks love!

Re: Getting serious about tipping- what are the 'new' rules- especiall Scotto girls- please help!

yes they say 75 minimum

and i firmly told them i dont want someone who doesnt know what they are doing to show up or i will send them back to the fox hollow and i can do it myself. LOL
i really didnt want some inexperienced teenager helping me that day. if that is what i would have gotten there would be some hell to pay.

Rene was my bridal attendent and i would reccomend her totally. she even packed up extra dinners for us and our cake because we didn get a chance to eat it at the reception.

its getting close!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris-

You're in great hands with Jenn. She was with me all the time and helped bring my stuff back to my room after the wedding . That's when I took $$ out of my wallet and gave her extra. She made sure we had whatever was left over from the cake and pastries. We had tons of food and she made sure they were all put in the fridge in my room.

I am not going to be tipping out the florist because they are charging us 300.00 extra for a set up fee.
As for the waitstaff/bartender/ its already included with the 18% graduity.

So I need to Tip:

Maitre D
Bridal Attendent
D.J. & M.C
Limo (one limo with a limo bus)
Hair & Makeup
Nails
Photographer
Music at ceremony?

I feel I am forgetting someone.

These vendors better kiss our butts the day of our wedding.

What am I the Bank of Lisa.

Jess,

Do what you can. Whatever you tip, it should be appreciated. I think we all have to keep in mind that tips are for a job well done... nowadays, so many vendors in this industry expect to be tipped rather than graciously accepting one for a good job.

WM bride here...
Ok...the 18% covers the waitstaff, bartenders, valet, bathroom attendent, etc.

You still need to tip the Bridal Attendent & Maitre D.

We got the Maitre D & BA we requested and were MORE than HAPPY with them both.
We tipped the MD $5/person and the BA $125.
