Getting serious about tipping- what are the 'new' rules- especiall Scotto girls- please help!
Original post by JessicaM.
Ok, so I know that Maitre D get's tipped (typically $2-$3 per person) but NOW with the 18% SERVICE charge tacked on to my pp count, what is the deal with the GRATUITY for the waitstaff/barstaff etc?
Would people feel comfortable telling me what they tipped the following people:

and if the person PERFORMING the work is the OWNER of the business, did that make a difference?
TIA!

DH tipped and I think some people didn't get all that they should have but budgets get tight. We didn't tip the wait staff and paid the 18% but I know that doens't make it into the hands of the staff- it's a bogus charge. ( I know kids in the catering business- at least that's true where they work but it's not my problem- sounds cruel but there's only so much I can do!) I think we gave Roy 700 but I wanted to do a little more. FH said 3-5 is fair but I only budgeted 2-3 b/c that's what they originally told me.
_______________________________________ You are so right about the bogus charge, I bluntly asked my wedding coordinator at my hall who the 'service charge' goes to and she told me it was a misconception that the waitstaff got this, it actually goes to linen service for set up and clean up of table and chairs and any extra set ups that you may have at your reception ie chair covers etc...so don't be fooled. She also told me that they get paid between 10 and 12 an hour, not a typicall wait staff fee, but still... hth
