I wanted to try to get some thoughts on this. We received a lot more 'no' rsvp's then i had ever thought we would. although i am really not gift hungry, i just thought it was very strange that with 68 people saying no, we only were sent one gift. I would never respond no to a wedding, shower, party like that and not send a gift! Has anyone else had this happen?

Re: gift etiquette?
i dont expect anything from people that rsvp no. personally if i dont attend an event i dont send a gift unless it is a close friend or family member.

Yes, not everyone who responded 'no' sent a gift. I'd say as of this point its about 50/50. I dont really expect them to, although I am with you; I always send a gift whether I attend or not.
On the other hand, we did get gifts from people who werent even invited, so there is no rhyme or reason

Yeah, I certainly didn't expect them to send anything if they didn't attend, but a few people did. I only would if I were close to the person I think....
but we also got a few gifts from people who weren't even invited! Little things, but it was still very nice!

Re: gift etiquette?
I have noticed that all our RSVP no's who didnt send a gift are OOT. They dont know proper etiquette and although its totall bull, you have to let it slide.
I however send a gift even if I dont go, but will not do that for people who did not send me one! Hmmph!
PS - We had people who came to our wedding who never gave anything! WOAH!

Re: gift etiquette?
We got a couple of checks with some no RSVPs and a few sent gifts separetly. Maybe more will send but I'm not really expecting them to esp since some probably can't come due in part to money issues.

Re: gift etiquette?
we have had only 2 no's that have sent a gift. Im not sure the etiquette on this one, but i think it depends on the relationship you have with the person

Re: gift etiquette?
I only give a gift if I cannot attend the wedding of a family member or a good friend (I often buy something very nice off the registry before the wedding so they know I care...) I have been invited to lots of weddings for sorority sisters that I don't keep in touch with and I wasn't sure why I was invited. So I would RSVP no and I feel as though that is the end of my obligation.

Re: gift etiquette?
A lot of people don't know its proper etiquette to senond a gift with a no RSVP. its sad, but true.
we always send a gift, regardless of the relationship if we cant attend. the amount however is subjective to the relationship.
on the other hand, people technically have a full year from your wedding date to get a gift to you.

Re: gift etiquette?
a lot of people will probably send a gift right after the wedding or after you return from your honeymoon. Not everyone will send it with the rsvp.

I never anticipate a gift with an invite.

Re: gift etiquette?
I just RSVP'd NO to a wedding & didn't send a gift.
Let's remember that our Wedding is a Celebration of our Marriage. It's not about getting gifts...even though I am excited about getting them too. LOL I don't expect them

Re: gift etiquette?
I got a ton of gifts from people who did not attend my shower. I only got 2 gifts from guests who RSVP'd no. Maybe they will send after - or not at all. I really dont expect anything from these people.

Re: gift etiquette?
We had a lot of nos cause there were a lot of OOT guests. About 40% of guests who said no did send a gift even thought it was not expected. They sent them all between a week before my wedding and a week after.

Re: gift etiquette?
i dont want people to get the wrong idea. i am not upset they didnt send anything with the no, i was just a little surprised. i really thought it was customary to do and was wondering what everyone else thought and did.

Re: gift etiquette?
for the most part no's tend to be no on attending & gift giving, lol! it's those that want to go above & beyond that send a gift without attending, thank goodness for some of those
