Gift for destination wedding not attending w/poll

Girls i need your honest thoughts on what you would expect to be given as a monetary gift from someone that can not attend wedding due to limited funds? My best friends brother who i grew up with is having a destination wedding in Hawaii. FH and i truely do not have it within are means which i know is understood, but i really want to give him something from us( i really really wanted to go), and im not sure how much, or if i should give his bride to be a jewlery gift instead? HELP

I would think $100 or $150....if you really cant afford it, you cant afford it. Something is better than giving nothing. At least you are giving something

My first thought is not one of your poll choices...

I'd say $75 or a registry gift somewhere between $50 and $75.

I'm so sorry you won't be able to attend, but I'm sure they'll understand and be touched that you still stretched to give them a gift.

A gift should be whatever is within your means at the time. Give as much as you can, but I would suggest a gift that both of them could enjoy instead of something specific for either one of them (jewelry, etc).

Only you (and FI) know your financial situation and hopefully no one would ever judge you based on what you decided to give.

I would not expect any certain amount. If I was the bride in this situation, and someone could not attend the wedding I would not judge them based on if they came or not or if they gave a gift or not. I am, however, pretty laid back when it comes to things like this.

On the other hand, if I was you, I would give what I can afford, or at least send them something from their registry. For very close friends of mine, I usually go for $100 - $150 in either a gift from their registry or a check depending what I can afford at that time.

Hope this helps

I think 150 is sufficient if it is in your budget to do so. Maybe a little more if you are very close to the couple

I'd give whatever you can afford. To me, $150 would be appropriate. But, if you think you can only swing $100, then I'm sure they'll understand. Include a nice note saying that you wish you could be there.

Give whatever you can afford. $100 is good, $200 is good- whatever is in your budget. I'm sure it will be appreciated no matter what it is!

I checked $200 because that is what I would give if I am close to someone and cannot attend the wedding....but anything you give is a really nice gesture. It's the thought that counts. And a lot of ppl who cannot come to a wedding do not give gifts, so I'm sure he will really appreciate it.

At least $150 if you can swing it, especially if you are close.
