So, for my shower, my mother gave me a cake topper. The only problem is... I hate it.
It is a HUGE porcelain thing with a couple with blonde hair and it's faggy. (FH & I are both brunettes.) It weighs a ton & it doesn't go with my cake at ALL. I picked a very modern looking cake with sugar flowers covering the top. There isn't even room for a traditional cake topper like the one she gave us.
She of course has been SO PROUD of herself that she has asked me at least 3x if I 'love' the cake topper as much as she does. She even went so far as to say 'I bet it was your favorite gift of the shower, wasn't it?' to which I had no choice but to say 'yes Mom. I love it.'
NOW WHAT???? This fugly thing is NOT going on my cake. Do I just put it NEXT to the cake with the servers & tell her the cake can't support it? Do I 'accidentally' drop it the day before? Help....

LOL!!! This is such a bad situation (I've been in similar) so I can't help but laugh. I'd say, don't accidentally do anything to it... but tell her for sure your cake cannot support it (which is most probably true!) and so they'll place it next to the cake. Then just put it on the cake table off to the side. ... and cover it with flowers... LOL, ok I was joking about that last part.

I would put in next to the cak and say it's too heavy to go on top.
I feel your pain though. My mom is all exited to lend me my something borrowed. A white gold watch that my grandfather gave her when she married his son (my father). I am so against wearing a watch and she was all crying and what not when she told me. I don't know what to do either.

How about putting the watch around your bouquet? Will that work?

That's too funny... sounds like something I would say. You may just have to tell her the truth.

Thanks but I don't think that will work because I'd be too scared I'd lose it. One of my BM's suggested I ask her to wear it for the rehearsal. I still have time to dwell on it. Thanks for the suggestion!

That is funny! Why don't you tell her it is too heavy (which it probably is) and put it on the table 'behind ' the cake!

Re: Gift from Mom...
Do you have a DOC? If so, then tell her to 'forget' the topper at her office.....
That way, ALL the blame is on her, NOT you!
Sorry, but your description was hilarious

I would put it next to your cake and tell her the bakery messed up and put their own one on there.

Aww, if it makes your mom so happy, put it on the table with the cake. Tell her you don't trust it on top.
