Gift from Mom...

Original post by carolinebr

So, for my shower, my mother gave me a cake topper. The only problem is... I hate it.

It is a HUGE porcelain thing with a couple with blonde hair and it's faggy. (FH & I are both brunettes.) It weighs a ton & it doesn't go with my cake at ALL. I picked a very modern looking cake with sugar flowers covering the top. There isn't even room for a traditional cake topper like the one she gave us.

She of course has been SO PROUD of herself that she has asked me at least 3x if I 'love' the cake topper as much as she does. She even went so far as to say 'I bet it was your favorite gift of the shower, wasn't it?' to which I had no choice but to say 'yes Mom. I love it.'

NOW WHAT???? This fugly thing is NOT going on my cake. Do I just put it NEXT to the cake with the servers & tell her the cake can't support it? Do I 'accidentally' drop it the day before? Help....

I would put it on the cake table and tell her it is too heavy.

i would get a topper that you like and act as if someone else gave you it. Then a few days before get all your items together and act like that it just went missing. Tell her you searched and cant find it anyplace!!
Just hope she doesnt go out and buy u another 1!! LOL

we need pics of this!

Re: Gift from Mom...

our moms should get together.... they have similar tastes

It's your mom..... and the sentiment was really sweet. Be grateful no pink flamingos are involved, and display it next to the cake.

I'm sure your mom means a lot to you, and this would mean a lot to her to display her gift with pride.... It's a tiny act to do on your big day which would mean a lot.

Don't put it on the cake, becuase it likely WILL topple over.

I can garantee no one will realize it except your mom....

ahh- You can't post a picture- what if?? its someones topper on here!

too funny

Most toppers stand on the tables now, i rarely see one on the cake. What don;t you have tons of stuff around your cake to take peoples eyes off it of, ? like candles and flowers, pile up the cake table?
lol

PS- MINE IS NOT that topper - I am having Cinderella~! ( which MY mom also, went ahead and BOUGHT ME)
lol

how ugly is it?
Can you just tell her that the cake can't support the wieght of it?
I don't like lying but a white lie to save her feelings may be in order.
