I'm not sure if it's all Catholic churches but I had a friend who couldn't tell the priest who was marrying her that her parents were divorced otherwise he wouldn't marry her.

Well that is pretty un-fair because it's not my fault my parents got divorced so they shouldnt take that out on my marriage!

That's really weird. I've never heard of that and it has nothing to do with Catholic law. I just went to my priest for the inital interview and he asked my parents names and if they are Catholic, but never once if they are divorced. In fact they are, and my dad is remarried outside of the church, but that's no reflection on me and my ability to get married. I can only imagine that as one of the questions they ask you to make sure you've examined all issues before getting married in terms of making sure that YOU have examined your feelings about your parents' divorce and that YOU understand marriage is forever.

ETA: I think she should report this to the diocese

I am having a full mass.
FH and I both go to mass every Sunday.
It should be the deicision the two getting married, not the families.
However, if Church is not important, why not just get married at the hall.

In my opinion, the wedding is the ceremony that takes place at the church/hall is really the most important part of the day. The reception is the party to celebrate- it is not 'the wedding'.

We had a full mass but for us there is no 'short' version for a Russian Orthodox Wedding Ceremony (Greek Orthodox for that matter too). There are too many parts/components to the ceremony that it just cant be done in 20 min or a half hour. We didnt want to just 'rush' the ceremony either. The ceremony is actually the most important part of the day & I think it's really important no matter what religion you are - if you are getting married in a church, then you should have the full mass. To me it really sets the tone of the day...JMHO

No we are not having a full mass for several reasons!!

The 1st is I have celiac disease and can not recieve communion ( I guess that sounds selfish that since I can't recieve i'm not doing a full mass but hey its my day right!!)

2nd we are not the most religous people out there. So I didn't feel it that nessesary to do a full mass.

I had a full mass pretty much because i wanted to drag out my wedding for as long as i could!

it really isnt all that long! 45 mins top!
DH's brother didnt want a full mass because they thought it would be too long, but umm their ceremony was just as long as our full mass!!!

my grandparents and DH's enjoyed that it was a full mass,
but its really up to you
