Girl getting married in Church! POLL!

Original post by Mommy2BeBride

This is an argument between FH and I.. For a few reasons..

but my question is for those getting married in church, are you having a full mass?

Opps I clicked the wrong one! We are not having a full mass.

A family friend is marrying us and he is a deacon, so I don't think they can perform a full mass.

i wanted a full mass but the priest told us not to have a full mass because my fh is not catholic, he's lutheran

We are both Catholic..

My argument is I have not been to church since I finished my confirmation, my parents are divorced, and I am not into the whole thing.

His argument is he has an old school italian family and they would take it as being disresectful for not having a full mass, even though the same goes for him that he hasnt been in church since his confirmation. lol

So I am torn, my parents say no, because they are divorced and they didnt have a full mass when they got married... and FH wants a full mass to please his parents, although he really doesnt want it either.

And not only that, but our wedding is a sunday in november, mass at 3.. its gunna be dark by the time we get out if it's a full mass and wont be able to take outdoor pictures!

If your family's argument is that they're 'old school' my priest told me that masses are a fairly new phenomenon when it comes to getting married and years ago they only did ceremonies.

I did a ceremony only because it made me feel uncomfortable to think that my non Catholic friends would think nothing of going up to receive communion and to me that is a big thing. I go to church every week but did not have a mass.

we are having a full mass. it wasn't an option for us. we both wanted it. i have been to ceremonies that have been longer than a mass. i guess it depends on the priest. my brother's wedding was a full mass and we were out in 45 min. my cousin had a ceremony and we were there for 1 hr 10 min. luckily, i'm having the same priest as my brother for the wedding.

We wanted to do just the ceremony, but for the Priest my FH likes to marry us we had to have a full Mass or else it would have to be a deacon.

Re: Girl getting married in Church! POLL!

The only reason I voted ceremony only is b/c the last wedding we attended was a full mass with a priest that no one could understand a word he was saying...most of the people around us were whispering to each other the entire time (which annoyed me more)

Just wanted to add...thanks for the ladies on here that mentioned that if you are not catholic you can not recieve holy communion in a catholic church (I went up during the wedding b/c I did not know that) If you are having people who are not catholic you may want to add that to the program so they do not make the same mistake

Yea I am so undecided. I really just want a ceremony and not a full mass.. but I don't know what's going to happen!

We're not. Honestly because people(myself included) dont wanna be there for an hour. I wanna be in and out. I'm Cathloic but not a holy roller. Some people get turned off if its a mass and want people to want to come and see me. I know its a matter of opinion, but we like the short version better

We're undecided right now..but I think we're leaning towards having a full mass.

Yes we are having a full mass. We both want it and the mass is the most important part of the day.

We both agreed we wanted a full mass even though we arent really church going people. Since our wedding in on a sunday, our priest told us that we needed to anyway

I'm not Catholic but I know that is one of the strictest religions. They may not take too kindly to both you of you not going to church often. I'm not sure if it's all Catholic churches but I had a friend who couldn't tell the priest who was marrying her that her parents were divorced otherwise he wouldn't marry her.

I believe the Lord will bless you whereever you get married. The marriage is between the two of you and both of you have to feel comfortable with where you are taking your vows. Good Luck

I'm surprised by the number of Nos there are. I just got back from meeting with my priest and he was saying that if the wedding is between two Catholics he won't do it if it's not a full mass and he questions people who don't want a mass.

We are having a full mass. I do not go to church every week, and neither does FH , but out parents wanted it, and we both like the idea of it.

we are having a full mass. honestly, even if its just the two of us that recieve communion, i dont care. i cant picture the sacrament of marriage without the sacrament of communion.

and when we asked the priest, he said it only adds like 15 more minutes so its not a crazy big deal for ppl to sit through

Re: Girl getting married in Church! POLL!

We're not having the full mass. Since we're getting married on a sunday, we have to wait til all of the regular masses are completed, so our ceremony starts at 3pm. With daylight savings etc, we also wanted to take pictures outside, so that was another reason why we are having the ceremony.

Well that is pretty un-fair because it's not my fault my parents got divorced so they shouldnt take that out on my marriage!
