Girl who called Z100 this morning about East Wind! Please Read.

You're in-laws are being ridiculous!! Ronkonkoma to Wading River is not a long distance to drive. I had family coming from Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Jersey out to Bayport. DO NOT concern yourself with this. Everyone has had to travel to a wedding at some point in their life. You do it because you care about that person and you want to celebrate with them.

I must admit I kind of agree with Danielle on this one. I have to go to a wedding on Memorial Day weekend and I can't go away now. Of course I'm going to go to the wedding because it's my cousin, but it is annoying. JMHO

Are you kidding me...you can't go away on Memorial Day because you're cousin decided to get married that weekend!!! The nerve of her not asking if it would conflict with anyones plans that weekend. I mean who does she think she is getting married on a holiday weekend.

DON'T GO if you're so annoyed that you can't go away - I sure wouldn't want a FAMILY member of mine at my wedding if they thought I picked the wrong day to get married...grow up

I'm getting married on a holiday weekend and if someone is 'annoyed' because I screwed up there holiday weekend plans - I sure as heck do not need you at my wedding. We chose a holiday weekend because YES it is cheaper - but when you and you're FH are paying for every last stitch of it - you take discounts where you can take them. So if a holiday weekend is cheaper for me to celebrate the most beautiful day of my life - then HELL yes I am getting married on that day - I could care less where your sorry arse wants to be..

I think in general people don't have a problem with a time of year. But when you tie up a 3 or 4 day weekend people get annoyed. I'm not saying it's right, but it's a fact.

I've heard more complaints about people being afraid of getting caught in a snow storm than I've heard of people wanting to go away for the weekend...

ets: but the reality is that no one should be complaining about what time or what day a couple chooses to get married. If they feel so bothered by it, they shouldn't attend.

i agree about the holiday weekend thing. i'm getting married memorial day wekeend and i did that b/c i have a lot of OOT guests, including FH and his family who are from philadelphia. in my experience, the past few years i've spent memorial day wekeend and labor day weekend at weddings. mine is on a saturday so ppl have sunday and monday for hte long weekend if they want to complain about it beign on a holiday. but i think ti was rude of them to say that.

I totally agree - I was so upset! I have lots of OOT guests coming in (including people from Europe). And as for the comments that a holiday weekend is cheaper - none of them have gotten married recently because I am still paying the peak price and the only deal I got was that I could guarantee less people...they obviously don't know what the cost of a wedding is on LI !

I agree with ILUVRS. Nobody is saying that they are not truly happy for the bride and groom getting married or that we love them any less, but the truth is, it does take some fun out of the occassion if people have to make a huge effort to go to a wedding that is either really far away or on a holiday weekend. I got married at the East Wind on a Sunday night because that was what we could afford and when I was planning the wedding I felt the same way you ladies feel. That if people really wanted to come they would. We really only invited close friends and family so most people came, as you all said, because they love us and want to share in our joy. Most of our friends and family did not live in Long Island and drove 2-3 hours to get to the reception. Many of them had to leave early because of work the next day and I could see that they were really trying to have a good time for our sake, but they couldn't go all out as if it was a Sat night wedding or somewhere closer. When we came back from our honeymoon, we felt so horrible that our guests, some with small children, sat in traffic for 2 hours trying to get home to the city.

As for holiday weekends, my husband and I have very demanding jobs and work long, long hours, usually till 8 each night. We often have to work weekends as well so we cherish our weekends, especially the few holiday weekends there are in the year. It's one of the few occassions we can get away, possibly take a short vacation and not have to worry about being off from work for too many days. As ILUVRS said, unless you have mostly out of town guests or that particular weekend has special meaning, there are 52 weekends in the year!!

We are not trying to offend any of the brides out there who have chosen these days. We don't want to ruin your day. We are just being honest that as a guest, we would be able to fully enjoy ourselves and celebrate with you if we weren't concerned about the 2 hour drive home or that we had previously planned a wonderful vacation with other loved ones.

Granted, I had a blast at our wedding. And everyone we truly cared about and truly cared about us made the effort and smiled the whole day, but after the whole thing was over and done with, I could tell, whether people told me outright or otherwise, my guests were not able to have as much fun as I would have liked. And my joy was so great that day, that I only wish my guests' enjoyment could have been half as great as ours.

There are 52 weekends in a year. If there is no discount on holiday weekends, unless there is some special meaning to the date (ie your anniversary is on Memorial Day or whatever) why would you have to choose a holiday weekend. I can see if 80% of your guests were coming in from OOT, that's understandable. But most of us have locals coming to our weddings. I understand it's an important day, but why tie up one of a few extended weekends that we have.

The same argument can be made regardless of when a wedding his held. 'Why have it during the summer, the weather is only nice for a short amount of time' 'Why have a wedding during the winter, it might snow....'

Bottom line is that if the guest cares about the couple getting married, they will attend with pleasure and not gripe about the day that the bride and groom chose. The wedding is about celebrating a marriage- on the date chosen by the people getting married. It's not about throwing a party for friends and family on the date that works best for other people...

I think in general people don't have a problem with a time of year. But when you tie up a 3 or 4 day weekend people get annoyed. I'm not saying it's right, but it's a fact.

Whoa, ok girl. If its so 'annoying' to people, then they don't have to come.
My wedding was originally NOT on a holiday weekend, but I changed it to memorial day weekend so that people do not have to worry about traveling and having to go to work the next day.
There are many brides on here who are having their weddings on holiday weekends, and you just came on here and insulted them all.

My wedding was originally the weekend after (Dec. 2), however FH's cousin's booked the day after us (Dec. 3), so FH & I decided to change our date to Nov. 25 (yes dare I say, a holiday weekend). What do you think would have been more inconvenient, FH's side of the family having to go to 2 weddings in 1 weekend and being exhausted on Monday, or having 1/2 of our guests leave my wedding early because they have another wedding to go to the next morning, or leaving FH's cousin's wedding early because they can't keep their eyes open since our wedding ends at 12 midnight and the wedding the next day is at 11:00am and they will be tired from dancing and getting home from our wedding late and having to get ready for their wedding early? Do you think that would have been better for both FH & I and FH's cousin to keep our weddings the same weekend? As it turns out, our OOT guests are coming in Wednesday and are now able to spend Thanksgiving all together (something we have not done in about 15 years), and then his family is going to spend the week and stay until his cousin's wedding. So they are all making a vacation out of it and are so excited. FH & I are actually not going to go on our HM until Dec. 4 because we want to spend the week with our OOT family. We both could not be happier!!!

You just came on this thread and insulted a lot of brides who are getting married on a holiday weekend and you have no idea why they decided to pick the date they picked. A lot of brides picked that weekend because it will be easier for their OOT guests to travel rather than come in Friday and leave Sunday, they now have an extra day for traveling. Or maybe that day means something very special to the couple. Or they just wanted that day. Whatever the reason is, the main thing to remember is that the couple picked this day and it is very special to them and for that reason alone, people should be happy for them and not 'annoyed'. I am sure the date that every one of us pick (whether it is a holiday weekend or not) does not work out for everyone, and for that reason people are more than welcome to respond 'no' to a wedding! It is very inconsiderate of people to say that they are annoyed that someone picked a holiday weekend because now they can't go away. Like someone stated earlier, there are 52 weekends in a year that you can go away, however only 1 day that a couple gets married!

It sounds like this thread is headed in the direction of picking on Sunday weddings now (because people supposedly can't enjoy themselves to the fullest because they have work the next day)...

Ladies, I guess we should have polled our friends and family before choosing our wedding date.

I'm getting married on a Sunday in November at East Wind. FH and I chose it because it is the place that felt most like 'us'; distance had nothing to do with it. If people are going to travel from another state to go to a wedding, they'll travel to Wading River. As for people who live on LI, if they don't want to drive the distance, it's their loss.

I second that!!!

NO we shouldn't have! This is OUR weddings... I'm doing mine on a Friday (labor day weekend) if someone wants to complain then don't go to the wedding! it's that simple.. it's times like these you find out who truly cares for you! A Friday, Sunday, holiday weekend, snow, rain...nothing Should come in the way of being there to celebrate the marriage of a loved one!!! I haven't had ONE person say anything to me about it! In fact a lot of people are happy cause then they have 3 days to recoup!!

Seriously...since when did having a wedding on Sunday or Friday become such an inconvience??? There are only so many Saturdays in the year...if we all decided to get married on Saturday - the waiting list would go into 2010...

Don't go if you can't get yourself up for work the next day - (sorry that is such a weak excuse), or if you'd rather go away for the weeked - its as simple as that, but don't come on here saying that there are better things you could be doing with yourself than attending a wedding

Not for nothing, but you are making an argument in our favor. You are saying that you felt bad that your guests had to travel 2-3 hours on a Sunday to be at your wedding and you could tell that they were not having as good of a time as you and DH, however if you had planned for a holiday weekend and people were off of work on Monday, people would have been parting all night and not cared about work the next day. I am not saying that you and DH picked a bad day at all because I have been to plenty of Sunday weddings and I had a great time regardless, but if you and DH are still feeling sorry for your guests that had to travel and go to work the next day, then it just goes to show me even more so now that those of us that picked a holiday weekend did the right thing.

Thank you for making me feel better about our decision.

Honestly I am not trying to start drama with everyone, I am just saying that we all picked our special day for whatever reason, and it is not nice to hear people say that they wish we did not pick that day because they would have rather go away for the weekend. You have many, many years and holiday weekends to go away, but a bride and groom have only 1 very special day!!!! Let them enjoy every minute of it and if you want to go away, just respectfully respond no to the wedding.

O wow! One let me say that all the brides that are saying it is annoying to attend a wedding on a holiday weekend must work for z100. These brides are also the most inconsiderate women I have ever met.

That being said, if it is annoying for anyone to tie up their weekend coming to my wedding instead of getting a tan, please feel free to go get burned.

Chrissy, Eliana, I agree with you...

I posted this on 07

Alot of people complain about when a wedding is...
as if it is an inconvenience for them...
So that is the reality, that there ARE people who do complain.....

People complain if a wedding is on a holiday weekend, not on a Saturday, etc etc

BUT when it comes down to it, the people who are REALLY important to the two of you will be there and the people that want to share your day will be there and thats all that matters...

right?
