girls that live with FH already

Original post by ant n tilde

please please please
give me some tips
how did you get through the first couple of months?

FH and I don't live together yet but our apartment is done and we have been 'pretending' LOL i guess you could say because we hang out all day and then 11 or whatever i just go downstairs to my bedroom and he goes home or hangs out for a bit. . .

but seriously - i am miserable and i HATE it

he wants to decorate with all this stupid stuff from our vacations that are NOT elegant at all and he is a PIG

i knew i would have to clean up after him, i accept that but what i DIDN'T expect was that WHEN i cleaned up after him ( without saying a word ) he would get annoyed and say that i was being like my mother!!!!!! its one thing if you are a pig but you cant be a pig AND not let me clean up

i just hate that my 'routine' is messed up and i cant do what i want when i want it ( can you tell i am the baby )

anyway - any tips/hints/help??

oh yeah and he does random things like he hung a SAW from a COAT HOOK and then when i opened the closet door it swung in my face - like why put it there?

or he was hanging a picture and he marked up teh whole wall with pencil - like not just a mark but practically DRAWING on the wall and it wouldnt come out and i freaked out and he is like 'duh it is pencil' yeah its pencil but i still have to clean it now for no reason!

I'm sorry, I couldn't help but laugh... I think our FH's are related. My FH and I have been living together for two years, but the first six months were definitely the hardest. Just adjusting to living with someone is a challenge. Sharing household jobs, space, and money is a lot to deal with. It's going to take time. The most important thing I learned is to PICK YOUR BATTLES.

I can't help you with the decorating thing. My FH's decorating skills are nonexistant (He wanted to paint our spare room ORANGE. And he has this huge blue and black moon and star tapestry that he wanted to hang on the ceiling!) But he gets offended when I veto his ideas. So you're not alone.

You will get through this, though. Keep in mind that at the end of the day these are minor issues. Remember that you love him, that you're getting married for a reason, and it'll be ok. Good luck!!!

we have 2 TV's. that's one thing that helps. Also, go out and do things alone so you have something to talk about. don't climb up each others butts. Always kiss goodnight.

LMAO at the keys on the tv and change on the fridge

They leave trails of stuff, right!!

My FH leaves a trail throught the living room of clothes, keys, pens, socks etc then finishes off by leaving more clothes on the bedroom floor NEXT TO the hamper

I think its a guy thing.

It will be better once you officially move in together. Definitely set some ground rules shortly after you move in and stick to them. He should respect that you are not a clutter person and dont like to live like that.

FH thought he was going to put up all his weirdo boy stuff (baseball plaques and aligator heads!) in the apt, but I reminded him it's not a dorm room. I comprimised and gave him a shelf of the entertainment center for his shot glasses. The other shelfs have normal stuff.

Good Luck-- you will be fine!

Re: girls that live with FH already

thanks so much for all the responses

i am going to suggest that he gets a shelf in the living room and puts all his stuff on there - so i can kind of smoosh all of his stuff in one area - like out of sight LOL that is a really great idea so its not everywhere i turn

so in the bedroom he has his night table so i can have a pretty dresser with doilies and stuff and in the living room he can have his shelf ( obviously i wouldnt present it as 'letting him' LOL )

I have to work on his 'trail of belongings'

I already asked him nicely not to leave stuff on top of the fridge bc it is the FIRST thing you see coming up the stairs. . .so today he put all his stuff on the kitchen table ITS A START! i will take what i can get!

Thanks so much!

Try to think about all of the positives, you know like what made you fall in love with him. I know, it's hard when they are acting stupid sometimes, but there are more reasons that we love them than bad things.(hopefully) It's tough, hang in there it gets better!

P.S. if he insists on keeping things.like my FH...like for example he wanted to keep a nasty old sweat shirt from 1978 I threw it out when he wasnt home one day..he never noticed..

I do that all the time. My FH thinks he's loosing his mind things are disappearing.

and I'll be all like 'oh, no honey, are you sure you didn't find it, I really liked it... maybe its just under all your junk
