Girls who are married- Give some AWESOME advice to the brides to be!

What is one thing you did, that made your wedding completely aweseome!??!??!

I am sure the Brides to be are as worried as we all were about the big day and worried about having it end fast...

My word of advice....

BE ALONE after the ceremony- no matter what, for at least five minutes...

Talk about what happened all day and just have alone time...

Our time was in the car on the way to get our pictures, we stopped waiting for the limo and it made the rest of the day worth it

ALSO

DO NOT leave eachothers side. We are so glad we didnt. We were havign so much fun TOGETHER and dragged eachother everywhere!

This is great.

I have to echo what you said- we didn't attend cocktail hour, we took photos during the first half and for 30 mins sat together in the bridal suite and ate, laughed and talked....kept saying 'OH MY GOD BABE, CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS' over and over again It was so sweet and really special because it was the only alone time we had until we got to the hotel.

We made sure to sit and eat our main course at the reception, we were urged to go table to table at that point but I refused- we did it during desert instead. I wanted to sit and take everything in and I'm glad I did. I got to see the centerpieces, candles, lighting...everything that I planned and worked on for a year- I truly got to see the people I love in that beautiful setting. It was an amazing moment. Don't let people boss you around on that day- it's YOUR day.

We rode in the group Escalade limo from the ceremony to reception and I'm so happy we did because it gave us some time with our bridal party- that was great!

What made our wedding AMAZING- which everyone has said....was us. You as the bride and groom set the tone. If you get up and dance and laugh- everyone else will. Happiness is contagious, don't be afraid to oooze joy on that day. Kiss your husband, hold his hand- savor everything.

That's it for me....everything was extraordinary and mind you LOTS went wrong. LOTS....but think big picture. Don't ever forget the big picture. To give you a few examples- we were late to the ceremony, late taking bridal party photos, had to take them in the studio which I don't like too much, personalized aisle runner was not used, plants were not placed in the right place at church, there was an accident, our children wer served food that I specifically requested they not be served due to allergies....I could go on. YET, it was perfect....if that makes any sense.

-- Not allowing a kicked-out BM to even attend my wedding... I was sooooo paranoid that she would embarrass me like she did at my shower and bach party that I wasnt going for strike #3 at my wedding... And I had a wonderful time not having to worry about her obnoxious behavior! Best thing I ever did... and also the hardest decision of my life!

-- Stop and look around the room at your guests during the reception... Look how much they are enjoying this crazy party you put together that took you 1, 2+ years to plan... It's all worth it at that moment!

-- Don't be afraid to tell you vendors 'give us a minute and leave us alone'.. They sometimes can become pushy when they want to get done what they have to get done (ex: certain shots they need to get on video)... You enjoy your reception... They work for you, not vice versa!!!!!!!

(If I think of anything else, I'll add more)

aww you girls just made me tear up .
You have given me a great idea right after the ceremony we will go to the bridal suite just the two of us and let our photographer have fun with the bridal party. We would like to get our 'Thank you's out of the way at CH so we can completely enjoy our reception!!

Keep the advice coming ladies!!!

I totally second your second one!!!!!!!!!!!

We did this while the Sinatra singer was singing and we were overwhelmed. It made our day so much more enjoyable!!

First and foremost, the day only flies by if you let it. I personally felt like my day way long and amazing! It didn't fly by at all. I made sure to make every moment count.

Second, don't let ANY of the little things get to you. There will be little things, so just let them roll off you. I told my FH the morning of the wedding when he was flipping out bc he got not one but TWO cold sores on his face the night before. 'This is it. This is our only day. We've been planning this day for 15 months. There are no do-overs, tomorrows, next times. There will never be another wedding. So are we both going to be ******** and ruin OUR day? Why because the two things we couldn't control happened? All I wanted was a temperate day, and it was a monsoon. All you wanted was no cold sores. Guess what? Monsoon and cold sores.' But you know what ladies? Once I made my little speech, we just rolled on. We made it work and had the best day ever!!

Third, take a moment to step back and watch it all go down around you. Watch everyone having the time of their life at the celebration you've worked so hard to put together. It's a great feeling.

Fourth, don't separate from your new husband. Stay together. This is super important! You guys should be together at all times, this is your day to unite.

Finally HAVE FUN!!!!! Let loose!!! Your guests and family love you both! Enjoy this day that you've been waiting so long for!

We had that moment in the bridal suite and who comes prancing in? Our freakin photographer... We told him to leave... Really... why the hell are you following us...

The only person who came up to see us who we were totally okay with was pastor april.... she had to say congratulate us and say goodbye and all that good stuff... so that was very much acceptable

-Make sure the planning is done before the wedding. Not one little thing should be left til the day of. Not even 'assigning' someone to hold your lip gloss. Figure everything out beforehand and don't worry about one little detail when you wake up that day. It's your day girls!! Don't spend it 'working'.

-Don't sweat the small stuff, not even for a second. Imagine looking back at this 20 years from now and saying, 'I wish I hadn't been so stressed out about.... ::enter small mishap that is sure to occur here::... on my wedding day.'

-Don't leave each other's sides! Go around to the tables together, get on the dance floor together, mingle together all day. But don't let the day slip by with the two of you being separated!

-Definitely take that one minute to move to the back or corner of the room and watch your loved ones!!! Take it all in. They're all there to show their love and support and share in your happiness and they're going to be having an incredible time. Take a second to be overwhelmed with love and appreciation!

I totally agree with the person that said that the bride and groom set the tone of the party. Alot of people told us that our wedding was the best wedding they've been to because we were dancing and partying with all our guests...

My aunt has nicknamed me 'fun bride'

*I know everyone says it, but don’t stress about the weather! I was checking weather.com like 10 times a day and the forecast kept saying thunderstorms and it ended up being beautiful. And if it does rain there’s nothing you can do about it anyway – but I’ve seen so many awesome rainy day pics!

*Be as close to DH as much as possible. We stopped at cocktail hour for about 15 minutes and went our separate ways to say hello to a few people, but then for the rest of the night he was always right next to me. As long as you at least say hello and thank you to everyone, no one expects to have long convos with them.

*Get a videographer! We were really on the fence about it and didn’t want to spend the extra $, but I’m SO happy we did. Pictures won’t fully capture DH’s voice shaking as he was saying his vows, my 6 year old cousin’s dance moves and the awesomeness of the MOH/BM speeches, but at least the video will (Well I hope it does, we haven’t gotten it yet. )

We shoulda swapped days then!!!! I had a freakin monsoon with thunder and all!!!!!! Even through that, I still had people sitting outside under an awning during CH.... im upset guests didnt get to wander around the gardens really, but they still utilized the space which was nice!

ETA: If its true what they say about rain and good luck, we should be married for at least 100 yrs for the amt of rain that came down

1) Taking bridal party pics before the ceremony. Our bridal party had 34 people and we're glad we took pics before the ceremony (before they got drunk). They ended up having a great time the entire night!

2)We hired a 2nd photographer at the last minute.with the bridal party and a 250 plus wedding; we had to get it. The 2nd photographer especially came in handy during the pics before the ceremony because she took pics of the girls while the main photographer was taking pics of the guys and vice versa!

3)Have fun fun fun! We were on the limo bus with the bridal party on the way to the reception and had a blast, the ceremony was a bit informal and great, the cocktail hour was great, and the receptioon was a blast!!!

4)I echo all the girls in the following ways: have that alone time after the ceremony!its very important. Take it all in during the reception, don't be in a rush! Don't stress on the day of. All you really need on the day of the ceremony is you, hubby, and the officiant! Make a vow to yourself not to stress about ANYTHING on the day of!

5)The slipper basket because I refused to stay in shoes the entire night!

Re: Girls who are married- Give some AWESOME advice to the brides to be!

I def agree with what the ladies have already said. My advice is to DANCE!!!!! Our video guy said he sees sooo many weddings that the bride and groom do not take time to enjoy themselves because they are so worried about evetything else. We danced the entire night and the only time we were not together was when I went to the bathroom. Also my advice is do not drink too much. You want to enjoy and remember everything, and you don't want to feel like crap the next day. You have the whole honeymoon to drink. I don't want to cause any drama, it's just my opinion. Also as corny as it sounds remember what the day is really about. You are marrying your true love and that is so excitiing, nothing else matters! Everythinf always falls into place and works out, it WILL be the best day! Enjoy every minute and let everyone else around you worry about all of the details. Also like Mazz said, don't be afraid to tell the vendors to back off, it is your day and they do tend to get pushy, it's ok to tell them to back off a bit! Good Luck ladies!!!!!

Re: Girls who are married- Give some AWESOME advice to the brides to be!

I think everyones advice has been spot on so far but I have to just disagree with one thing that I keep seeing which is be glued to each other all night. I say YES obviously you spend just about the entire day/night together, BUT I have to say its also great to mingle and dance with your friends apart as well. I danced with my girls while he danced with his boys at times and I walked around a lil bit to say hello to a few of my friends and went off to do shots with the girls. I have to say being glued to each other all night isnt great either because some of your guests, maybe people you havent seen in a while may want to hog you a lil cause your the bride, your the center of attention a lil more than the groom ya know what I mean? Im not saying DONT interact with your husband or anything but I def think you need to also enjoy your guests and your friends and have your girly moments =)) Your guests appreciate it more than you know.

Otherwise I couldnt agree more with everyones advice. Dont sweat the small stuff and more than anything HAVE FUN! My husband and I danced ALL NIGHT and just about every one of our guests were up ALL NIGHT dancing telling us it was the BEST wedding they have ever been to! We were told were the happiest bride and groom they have ever seen, they never seen 2 people with bigger smiles ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT.

One other rec: GET A PARTY BUS!!!!!!! If your ceremony is different from the reception GET A PARTY BUS to take your bridal party and you to the hall! We did and we had A BLAST!!!!!!!!!! So did everyone in out bridal party! =)))

Re: Girls who are married- Give some AWESOME advice to the brides to be!

I didnt want to get into a debate... but I do agree with the pp about not having to stay by each other 24/7... DH visited some of his tables alone as did I... We would reunite for anytime we were eating... and then dance with each other at points and then dance with friends at other times... You can see in my pics that we were still together but when dancing apart, we were maybe 5-10 ft from each other... I never had to wonder where he was... The times that he disappeared to the bar to have some shots with his friends... I didnt even notice him gone... I was having too much fun myself... I only know he was gone bc he told me afterwards...

That being said... enjoy your day together and/or apart... however you guys feel comfortable... Speaking for myself, this is the same thing we do when we're out at a bar/club... So act however you're used to IMO

Re: Girls who are married- Give some AWESOME advice to the brides to be!

Don 't procrastinate on all the little stuff!! I started getting BM gifts months before, and table #s and all that great stuff - but the programs, picking out songs, escort cards i stressed about at the last minute and could have taken care of earlier.

I agree with stick together and being apart, for the most part we were together most of the night, but sometimes i would dance with my friends, he would go to the bar etc, its good to mix it up a little!

Make sure you keep the hellos to everyone short!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes we would get stuck in a 5 min convo, befoer you know it the night is half over and you just finished greeting everyone. Say hello and thank you then move on so you have time to dance!

Def take time by yourself, and step back at some point to soak it all in

Tell people in advance if you need them to be in your pictures, we got married at the RH and took pictures right after ceremony, i should have told certain people to not disappear!

At one point we snuck outside while everyone was dancing, and took maybe 10 min to take some night pics, i cant wait to see those i think it will be worth it!
