Girls who are on the heavy side.

Girls who are on the heavy side.

Has anyone thought of having the surgery. Everyone I talk to about it is so against it. I was talking to my best friend about this girl I saw from High school who had it done and looked great and my friend was like that is so bad that she is so young and had it done. Ya well she was never overweight so how does she know how hard it is. Some times I just feel like Im stuck and anything I do can't help me. Ive tried.

My aunt just had the surgery, and after hearing about how much of a lifestyle change it is, I know if I ever got that big (i'm not now) I couldn't do it. But she does look so much better (and healthier) now.

one of my major accounts is an obesity drug and i've done lots of research on the industry.

It's not something you want to consider

I know. At first I was like I like food to much I couldnt eat one bite and be done but to be healthier I could. Plus after one bite you are full anyway.

the surgery will not make you healthier

Prior to getting pregnant, I was considering surgery. I don't think it makes you a bad person. I've tried every diet and exercise imaginable and the weight continued to pile on. Oddly enough, now that I'm PG, I'm having trouble gaining enough weight and hopefully that will result in my losing weight once I have the baby. They say losing weight takes motivation and discipline, but some people just can't lose the weight no matter how much motivation and/or discipline they have, or they just can't find that motivation and/or discipline.

My very good friend just had the lat band surgery on Dec 13. To date she has lost 50lbs. It literally has changed her life. She is more confident, eats healthy now and go to the gym everyday. She ultimatly wants to lose 75lbs more but she says it is one of the best decisions she has ever made in her life.

I am heavy and I would never do that surgery. I have been on a gazillion diets - I even lost 60 lbs on WW once. At this time I am having a hard time losing weight it just doesnt work no matter what I do. Ive come to accept that this is me. Take it or leave it!

I agree that it won't. While your appetite is supressed, it won't stop you from eating unhealthy things.

Re: Girls who are on the heavy side.

Someone I work with had the surgery and did lose a bunch of weight, but it has slowed down dramatically, and she still needs to lose more. I think the problem with it is that she physically couldn't eat a lot of things immediately after the surgery. However, she built her tolerance back for many things and now she eats the same crap she did before - fast food, snacks throughout the day, etc. - but just in smaller quantities.

Honestly, I know it is tough, it is my constant struggle too, but I don't think I could do it. My friend knew of 2 people who died from complications from the surgery. Do you have someone you can buddy up with to work on it together? I am still sticking with WW, and I haven't lost for a while now, but at least eating better and not re-gaining what I already lost.

Ya but having that surgery could take a 100 + pounds off that makes you healthier in itself.

I swear---I am NOT being rude when I say this...I just am not sure I understand--> why didn't your friend do this in the first place?

My aunt had the stomach bypass over 15 years ago, and she has kept off over 100 lbs., she looks great.

This is what she needed to do for herself, and I'm glad she did it.

Surgery should really be a last option choice and that's only if your weight is causing serious health problems that could be life threatening.

well it IS a personal decision

sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't

after some of the research i have done, it's too big of a gamble to make

my friend had it done as well and looks great. She exercises 5 days a week since she had it done 4 years ago. She saw it as a fresh start and maintaining rather than taking it off little by little without the surgery. She always attempted ww, it just seemed like her 'problem'(that's what she called it, not me) was too big for her to get a handle on.
