girls who have used TAs (anytime - not hm specific)....

what is the typical fee they charge?
for example - i had an itinerary created for the honeymoon and when i price it out myself it seems to be about $1000 less if I book it myself. is that normal?? obviously i expected that it may cost a little more but i feel like that is A LOT

I never used a TA though so i have no idea if this is typical or if she is just overcharging

thoughts??

Hmmmmmmmmm generally TAs should be about the same or a little less and then should also be able to throw in some perks for you. If she is more, I would tell her to take a hike.

It should be the same price, less, or the same price with perks thrown in. They get their fees from comissions that are built into the prices of hotels and airline tickets. When you don't use a TA, the hotel or airline keeps the comission. Generally a TA will give you something to earn that comission, not the other way around

i figured she would try to give the best pricing and maybe i am missing something but i am looking at all the hotel sites and getting rates so i dont get it. The only thing I can not calculate is the cost of the transfers (to each hotel and the airport) but I am figuring that will be about $100 per person per trip which seems more than a reasonable amount.

So my next question is...can i tell her your quote seems really high??? or just tell her im not interested???

I would actually just tell her that when you priced it out it was $x, and ask her why her price was so much higher. I would definitely ask. It might include something you don't need, or it might be for a higher level of room, etc.

I always found that the prices TA would offer were wayyyy higher. So now I always book vacations myself and so far everything have worked out perfectly.

up until now i book all my trips too! But Fh has me paranoid since we are going to costa rica and plan to stay in 3 different parts he thinks we will have trouble getting from place to place. Plus another bride on here told me not to rely on cabs while we are there bc they are rude to tourists and overcharge. So i have no way to book transfers unless I go through a TA...

We booked our HM through a TA, and it was the same price as on the website for the cruise. I acually contacted a couple different TAs and it was all the same price.
