Girls who work out...need your advice...

I've been trying to get in shape for my wedding this month and I am trying to concentrate on my upper body (my dress is strapless.)I have been doing the eliptical (sp?) for cardio and then arm weight machines to tone my arms, but I swear I feel like my arms look fatter. What is going on? Any ideas on how I can slim and tone my arms?

you might be developing muscle tone, but if there is still fat over the muscle, it wont show. cut calories and add more cardio for your last few weeks

i agree with mikeandlisa. also, i've found that pushups work wonders. and make sure you're using enough weight when you're on the machines - they use ALOT of momentum, which can really cut down the effect. you should feel fatigued by about 8 reps so the last 2-4 are pretty hard! HTH!

Also, free weights (dumbbells) are better for adding definition than weight machines, because you get a larger range of motion. 5 exercises, every other day, should get you a noticeable change after 10 workouts. Concentrate on:

biceps (3 sets of curls, 15 reps each at a weight that would be too heavy to lift a 16th time)

triceps (lie on the floor with a weight in one hand straight above you, palm facing your body. Put your opposite hand against the tricep you'll be working to support the arm. Curl the weight down towards your head and back up. Alternate sides after finishing one full set. 3 sets of 15 on each side).

delts (they have 3 heads and you need to work each. Shoulder presses are good, so are front raises. It's too hard to describe how to work your rear delts- try Googling it!)

HTH! Girl power!

I've always heard that getting in shape is 20% workout and 80% food. So keep doing what you're doing and make sure you're sticking to a diet plan and before you know it you will see results. I did weight watchers while working out and I can't believe the difference!

I use the free free weights primarily and do 3 sets of 12 and the most I will ever use is 10 lb weights. Any heavier will great much more muscle and make your arms look thick. We don't want that. LoL

You might be building up your muscles. If you want lean, toned muscles amp up your cardio and steamline your diet. I find that I get lean muscles if I tone while I also concentrate on intense cardio.

Fot my arms every night for about two months I used my 5 pound dumbells. I sit on my knees and one hand on the floor and the other wood swing the weight back. It works your inner arms. You know the flabby part that hangs down. I actually got a little toned from doing it for a while. Although I don't do it as much now that I'm married. Ugh... better start again
