Girls with Cats - Female cats - Update - Claude is ok!
Original post by Toucan311
Have they ever had a urinary infection? My little Claudette has one I think and I'm concerned. Everything I've read says its worse for male cats, and that it clears up in female cats w/in 5-7 days, regardless of treatment. I'm ready to take her to the cat ER! Anyone every experience this?
Wow that is something...Good to know if I ever needed it in the future...

Prof McGonagall had a UTI...it scared the h e ll out of me. I took her to the 24 hour vet and with antibiotics it was cleared up in 3 days. Take her tomorrow morning. The 24 hour vet will charge a fortune and laugh at you...I know it happened to me.

i'm looking thru my kitty vet book, what are her symptons?
Just the blood in her peep, and frequent trips to the litter box.
take her to the vet tomorrow!!! i do not want to scare you, but the book says it could be issues w/ the kidney if there's blood in the urine but no pain.

I know one thing that you should avoid in the mean time is dry food because it will only make the urine more acidic which is more pain for the cat.

One of my male cats had to 'become female' because of urinary problems. I'm not sure about female cats, but I would still take her to the vet. It can be a serious problem. Try to avoid those ER places if you can. They will charge you for EVERYTHING.

Oh Cloodette!
She is soooo adorable!!! FH had a male cat that had urinary tract infection but it was b/c the urine had crystalized...he had to be on a special diet.
but I've never heard of female cats having one, I have one kitty now, how old is your cat? I would take her to the vet if it doesn't clear up in a couple of days and she seems to be in pain. Meowch! Feel better Cloodette!

Awwww poor kitty. I freak out when my dog has any issue. Once I called the vet to tell them she was licking her paws so much (she had a claw problem, I think it cracked and was hurting her) that 'she licked the black off the paw.' Yes, I said that. They were nice and didn't laugh, but I am sure they did when they hung up.
You can laugh at me, it's ok.
I later realized that the paw she was licking was the only one that was mostly flesh colored, not black.
So I completely sympathize with you wanting to take her to the 24hr vet. Let us know what happens at her appt!
