Fh gave me his password for his email accounts, we have each others pin numbers and are planning to have a joint bank account.
I was okay with giving him all my info, but I feel really weird about my email password, he doesnt undertand this. He communicated via cell phone and is not big into emails, I on the other hand am addicted.
Am I being totally wierd about this??

Re: giving password to FH
FH and I have eacothers EVERYTHING passwords (ATM's, emails, cell phone pins) I wanted it that way, It was my idea. We don't check eachothers stuff, so it doesn't affect us, but I like the feeling of knowing.
If FH changed a password, and wouldn't tell me, I would feel hurt. I would take it as he doesn't trust me. BUT on the other hand, I understand the NEED for privacy.
You really have to talk to him.
Sorry, I was of no help!!

I don't have any of his pins and passwords. Never asked either. This sort of thing doesn't bother me.

Ditto. You have to be able to co-exist and then exist individually.
A person still needs their own 'privacy' no matter if it's family or a husband, etc.
I suggest writing your information down, and then letting FI know where it is, in case of emergency - whatever that may be....Otherwise, no need to willingly 'give it up.'

We have each others passwords and pin numbers. We didn't just exchange them, at one point. We just told them to each other for one reason or another. It doesn't bother me - we don't go into each others things w/o the other one knowing.

with the same respect of 'no need to willingly give it up' why is there a need not to?
what this comes down to is trust and respect. DW and I know everything about each other (passwords, email, phone, banks, etc...) i can access her personal files anytime...heck she wouldn't even know im doing it (im a computer geek) but do I, no..have no reason too and even if i did, i wouldn't.
I've seen a situation where someone died and the wife had no idea how to access information (password type encypted stuff) Depending on your arrangements, it can be hard to deal with say that person handles all the money and pays the bills etc...
you will be getting married and when you do, you are 1 union. not sure why you women feel like you are giving up your life when you willing started a new life

Re: giving password to FH
I never asked FH for any of that stuff but I think I actually know some of them and honestly, I could probably figure the others out if I really wanted to. But if he wanted my stuff I wouldn't care, what is there for him to see. He knows who calls and emails me and he definately knows my $$$ situation.

same with us- he doesn't even check his VM- so I don't need to- that's his business
I have never been the type of girl to want to check my BFs stuff
why would you need or want to check each others email?- I think you need some space-

Re: giving password to FH
I would never give my email password to FH. Not that its a trust issue, but conversations I have between my sis and mom are private.
Just because we are getting married doesnt mean we dont deserve a little privacy for ourselves.
Its the same as if I called my sis on the phone and went into another room. Should I have to stay in earshot of him just b/c he could have the option of knowing what my conversations about? no way. You should still carry on personal relationships as individuals.
We each have our own emails and 1 together. Same with bank accounts.
ETA: Do you really think your friends/family emailing you want him reading it all as well? Probably not all of the time.

I wouldn't give him my email password. Its not that I don't trust him, or that he shouldn't trust me, its just that some things, I still want just for myself. There is no reason he needs access to my email. I am all for sharing, but not everything.

Re: giving password to FH
I can see exchanging banking info and online account info for insurances and all that good stuff...but email...no. I don't see the need for it.
I don't feel the need to be able to crawl into his every nook and cranny to feel like we are a union. there may very well be stuff I don't want him to see and vice versa...not stuff that breaks the trust of our marriage...but stuff that keeps me ME and him HIM....
if he wants an email account for you both for things you do as a unit, start a new screen name and have all important stuff sent there.

Re: giving password to FH
my DH and I have told each other our pass words, but neither one uses them and frankly, if I need to go into one of his accounts I need to reask him for the password each time; so you can see what a priority it is for me. lol
I can see the argument on both sides, but if he promises not to go snooping would that be ok for you?

Same here...we have each others pin numbers (mostly because if one of us goes to the bank we ask the other to take our card and take money out for us as well) and we have a joint checking. Other than that though we don't have each others passwords for cell, email, IM etc. We never asked it each for them and honestly I've never really thought about it. If he wanted them he could have them but I don't think he would ever ask me for that stuff. And I am sure if I asked for his he would give them to me but I don't see why I would need them. That's just me though. That stuff doesn't bother me either.

Re: giving password to FH
We only know each other's pin's, it's a joint account so it doesnt matter! well we kinda passwords but we dont check up on each other, not sure if he KNOWS mine... but it's fine with me, there is nothing he doesnt know anyway that i would write to anyone... i'd rather him not know only to keep family and friends that write me private things private... it's more of an invasion of others privacy than mine for him to read my emails!!!

FH and I have only our pins to our bank accounts. Not emails or voice mails though. A girl needs a little privacy ya know.

Re: giving password to FH
FH and I told each other our email passwords, but he forgot mine. Twice. So he doesn't know it, which I like, even though I know he's not a snooper. I also like having his, even though I wouldn't check his email unless he knew I was.

Re: giving password to FH
Hmm never thought about getting this...problem is we each can't remember our own passwords for things half the time! Guess we better sit and write down stuff for each other, not an issue just never thought of it...most of our stuff is joint so we each can access anyway!

Re: giving password to FH
Don't do it! I gave my fiance my password to Liweddings and he's on my account all frickin day.. sometimes you need a sense of privacy, especially if you're writing emails to friends, family, etc...
