It's a modern day rocking chair... instead of rocking, it glides.

VERY VERY VERY good to have. The ottoman part is not necessary.
This is a great item,.,, esp when you are feeding the baby whether you are nursing or bottle feeding.
Try to get a hand me down if possible...
I am using mine every day..and have been using it since I was about 3 months pregnant. very comfy to sit in
