My FI works and lives in NJ, while I live on LI. I was wondering if any of you go meet with vendors, like the band, photographer, videographer, without your FI initially. I feel strange going to meet with vendors without him, but because he really can't get out here during the week, I think I might have to. I think I'd meet with a bunch without him and then narrow it down to my favorites and then have him go.

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
Sounds like good time managment to me! There's nothing wrong with narrowing down the pool, eliminating the vendors you definetly don't want to go with, and then bring FH to the ones you're serious about. I'm sure he trusts your judgment and will save him a trip in commuting

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
My FI lives in Brooklyn and works in the city and I live in LI. I never went without him to meet a vendor. Since we are both paying for our wedding ourselves his opinion really matters. We just set up all our appointments on the weekends and it has been working out just fine.

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
I did everything by myself cause my work schedule allowed me to meet vendors during the weekdays where as my FH worked. He is interested in the planning...but accepts that it wont get done if i wait for him, so hes fine with me going by myself..he knows i have both of our interests in mind.

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
The only vendor my fiancee saw before we booked was our reception facility...otherwise he left it all to me. He also didn't really have a choice since his work schedule is not conducive to normal (and even NOT normal) business hours. I'm lucky he'll be at the wedding!

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
I did everything without DH except the photographer because he's really into photography. I took my mom or my sisters to the rest it was well worth it he would have been so bored and would have said whatever you like honey so I brought them instead and we had so much fun...

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
I've visited most vendors without FH....between his work and school schedule, timing clashes.....we do discuss everything before any booking takes place if he can't make it but he trusts my opinions. Bring a friend if anything.....I did alot a research on vendors I liked than narrowed it down to two each, email them for more info and then set up to meet with them and then discussed with FH. GOOD LUCK!!

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
I went to all of our vendor meeting with my fi, but that's because he wanted it that way. However, we live together and it's a lot easier that way. I did choose all the vendors and only took him along so that he could see which one he clicked with. As long he trusts your judgement and doesn't need to be involved in the actual meeting, go for it! Lots of girls where at vendor meetings with their moms or friends...have fun!

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
dh and i went together to everything but i think the better thing to consider is not necessarily what we did but what your fi wants - does he care if he goes or doesn't go? would he rather be there or would he rather leave it to you? i would talk it over with him and see if he has an idea.
ETA: does this sound preachy?? I just re-read and thought i sounded a little mean, which i did not intend....plainly i just meant to subtly suggest you ask him what he wants to do....then you can work around that! good luck and have fun either way!

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
We only met with the DJ's together. In my case, it was a lot easier that way!!! My Mom came with me to meet the rest.

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
The only vendor where my FI was present was the reception hall. For every other vendor I've had my Mom with me. If I waited for him to be home on leave to visit vendors I'd never get anything done.

I went to most everything with my mom or sister...i knew that if he came, he would think everything I suggested would be 'fine'. My mom is the only one that gives 'brutal' honesty! Good luck!

I feel so much better now!
I had hoped to go next weekend to visit a bunch of places and then my FH planned to go skiiing suddenly! (and I really want to book a place before the Valentines Day rush).
So now I don't feel so silly going with my mom and sis!

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
We have only done our reception hall (as far as vendors) so far and I couldn't have gone without my FI...I am very indecisive!! And I felt stressed about which one to pick!

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
I did invitations completely on my own. I knew what I wanted, and I wasn't willing to compromise, lol.
Other than that, I did hair and makeup on my own. He brought me to the salon because his uncle is the owner, but he left and after my trial, the girl took my hair down so he wouldn't see the style. Oh, he did see my makeup trials, but I ended up choosing different colors on the wedding day anyhow.
I viewed a few halls on my own because I had more free time. Other than that, he was there for it all!

Re: Going to vendors without FI??
I am in the same situation --my FI lives and works in NJ and I live on LI...He came with me to some of the vendors (hall, photographer/video, band, limos) but others I met without him (florist, day of coordinator, invites)...It is tough planning a wedding when you don't live near one another...
