I have yet to find a TRULY GOOD bagel place in my area (hey i got 2 days till my due date, I can still B@#$ and MOAN about cravings !! )
If you've ever had a bagel at PICK-A-BAGEL in Manhattan, you know what I mean.. I mean that big, doughy, fluffy, hearty BAGEL ! I've tried quite a few in the Commack, Smithtown area, and none has quite impressed me !
My brother lives in Massapequa park and has gotten GREAT GREAT BAGELS (meet my standards!) in Merrick, but doesnt know the name, he's on assignment to get me the name, so I can see if its a chain and theres one near me...
The most pathetic are the supermarket bagels, as my brother calls them 'rolls with a hole in them'.
Dont these people know how seriously a New Yorker takes their bagels ???

A&S gets my vote. We used to close down 007, then stumble across the street for everything bagels w/veggie cream cheese. The best.
There was another bagel store on Hemp. Tpke. in WH that was good. They opened at 4:30 AM, so if line was too long at A&S, we'd head down there.

Try A&S. It's the best. Worth the ride. If you're in the mood for a 'heart attack' on a bagel you can get a Rudy - Eggs, Cheese, Bacon and Sausage I believe.
They have other sandwiches but the bagels are awesome any way.

yummm...god i miss hot bagel...hell i live in florida...there isn't even an acceptable place here boo hoo for me!
I like Bagel Boss...which is near my parents (I think its East Npt...on Jericho)
also in Levittown there is a bagel place...I can't think of the name, but its on the corner of Hempstead Tpke and Gardiners/Jerusalem... they have bagels like cheddar and bacon and bacon and eggs...

Strathmore! I love those bagels. We used to go there for lunch in High School. I definitely vote for them!

I am currently living in Brooklyn, so bagels are a staple of my diet. My family has a Bed & Breakfast on Fire Island and we have our bagels delivered from Bagel Boss. They are very good

lisa - you are killing me! I used to ask people at home to send me bagels ALL THE TIME! If ever anyone was coming out for a visit, that was my one request. A couple of times, my brother's girlfriend FedExed some to us! Too funny - you just cannot find good bagels in CA!

Kimmie- I'll ask my brother about that place in massapequa park. I asked him about the GREAT GREAT bagel place he always goes to, I think he said the name was Bagel Cafe, on Merrick Rd (in Massapequa Park) they are outrageously DELISHUSS !!!!
OK, so this week and last week not being prego anymore, I had my tunafish, greek food, cold cuts... now I have to still take care of my AMERICAN BAGEL IDOL craving !! LOL.
Once there was a deli by my job (when I worked downtown @ century 21 dept stores), I had gotten a GREAT bagel there, it was 7 grain, and the guy said it just happened to be thrown in the bunch at random, so i would order a dozen of them every few weeks and split them with my SIL, LOL !!
