Good China
Those of you that registered for and received fine china place settings for your wedding...Have you used them? Would you say you get alot use out of it?
I worried that if I didn't have enough place settings for all guests, I wouldn't want to use them at all.

Re: Good China
My mom bought my fine china for me for my shower gift. I absolutely love the pattern but have yet to use them. We do not have a formal china cabinet yet and I have no place to store them in my kitchen.
We are saving a little money to buy a dining room set and hope to start entertaining (formally, at least) in the springtime.

Re: Good China
We haven't used ours yet. We just got a small cabienet to put in our small dining room for at least some of the dishes. I am dying to use them and once we get ourselves back together from the holidays I want to use them for Sunday dinners.

Re: Good China
I've used my china twice -- for New Year's Day dinner last year and my first anniversary!! I was so proud of how my table looked, nerd that I am, I had to take a picture of it!! Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner, so I can't post it!!!I registered for 12, but ended up with 17. I returned 4, so I have 13.
I love china, so I'm all for it!
What pattern are you looking at?

Re: Good China
Jen, when are you getting that gorgeous set you want??? Once you get it, you'll be arranging and rearranging I can't tell you how many times!! But since I've had to do that unwillingly lately, it's staying put for awhile!
I love my china closet, that's my favorite piece of furniture!!! I love looking at all that crystal and china!! I'm telling ya, when I walk into Mikasa or Fortunoff's, I'm like an addict getting her fix!!!

Re: Good China
Good question! We finally started looking for a living room set (we want to do both rooms at the same time since they flow into one another), and a soon as we make a decision we will order both. YIPPEE!!!!!!
I just know you're right ~ my favorite new hobby will be organizing my beautiful china and crystal!

Re: Good China
I use mine from time to time. It's got an english country look so it's not real formal. The pieces also blend well with my every day dishes which are creamy white, so I mix and match pieces, and use the serving pieces from the good china. My problem is storing all the stuff! In addition to my set, I have my MIL's set that she gave me, plus a couple of partial sets that had belonged to grandmothers, plus my Christmas dishes, and a few other seasonal sandwich sets.

Re: Good China
Bear-Well when i registered i was looking at I believe it was Lenox Platinum something or other. Basically creamy white with a thin platinum band on the rim.
Any other comparable maker will do. I notice sometimes they have similiar patterns.
I said if I really wanted it, I would start collecting place settings after the wedding and now I want to!
Its really nice to eat on a gorgeous plate!

Re: Good China
Regarding china:We registered and received 8 sets of good china. We use it often...not only on special occassions. Its pretty, so I like to use it rather than let them sit in the closet...even if its just putting cookies on the platter.
Maybe we use it more b/c we only have 4 settings of everyday...

Re: Good China
I have not used my china/crystal yet! It is not even unpacked out of the boxes since we have not bought a dining room set. When we do, I hope to use it as often as possible, Sunday dinners, holidays. I can't wait!

Re: Good China
We use our good china all the time. We use it about 10 times a year. My DH insisted that we complete the set and I'm glad he did because our pattern was discontinued. We have service for 13 for our China, Crystal and Flatware. I wanted to make sure I had an extra just in case one breaks. We have all the serving pieces and even ordered extra dessert bowls and mugs.
We try to use our china as often as possible. When we have friends over for a dinner party, we set with formal dishes. Some of our friends have told us that we've inspired them to use their china more often too.
I figure that everyone went out of their way to buy us these beautiful dishes, the least I can do is use them. We find that our guests feel special when we serve on China.
Actually, right now, we're considering buying another set which is not quite as formal but that we can use when people come over. Right now I have a corelle everyday set and the china so we use the china whenever anyone comes over because our corelle is a little beat up.
I say go for it.
