Good news...some wedding changes

So FH and I have been talking about buying a house together (we both still live at home with our parents). So we've been trying to figure out how we could come up with a down payment, mortgage payments, etc (my parents have graciously told us they'd help us out as much possible with the down payment) Obviously one place we could save money is with the wedding costs. We looked into changes we could make without making it too drastic of a change from what we originally wanted. So we decided to cut our guest list to 150 (instead of 250) and to have the reception in the afternoon instead of the evening. So with these changes, we're looking at $20,000 saved!!! It was a no brainer for us when we did the math and now we're starting to look for houses!! I'm so excited and just had to share!

We actually started looking at the real estate section of the ny times and make appointments to see the houses and just go to a bunch of open houses

That is so nice of your parents and I think it is a good idea to cut the guest list. I think the only people who should be at the wedding is immediate family, family friends, and the bride and grooms friends. I don't think you invite friends of friends and all that... just the people who know the 2 of you well and those you want to share your day.....good luck house hunting...I am hoping to start looking in a few months!!!

That's great I am so happy for you both !! Me and Mike just moved into an apartment but wished we could have purchased a home. We plan on that after the wedding. However, living together has been great so far !! Happy house hunting

We're doing the same thing! We are having 150 people and we're having it in the winter on a saturday afternoon from 1-6...the savings crazy!!!

wow! Youre ahead of the game!! Thats really a good idea and a very levelheaded thing to do. Sure it might be a smaller wedding, but one day of sacrifice will give you a lifetime of something that you will own-a house!!
