OK, we got the minivan. and as for the 2nd car, we're definately selling/trading in the Civic. ITs just not practical for us anymore
One of our options might be an SUV, and we may get it used to save a few bucks.
Any recommendations on a truck that youve had for years with no problems (yeah right) a GOOD, reliable, well made truck. (no status symbols necessary ).
Price range, Id say under 20K (used). NO more than 3yrs old (off-lease type thing)
and I know gas efficiency is not even an option with trucks... we were thinking of the Explorer with the 3rd row in the back...

Re: Good SUV Recomendations?
My girlfriend just got (well, over the summer ) a Toyota 4 Runner and LOVES it.
She reminds me a lot of you... GREAT with money and a true bargain hunter, so this may be the SUV for you!

Toyota Highlander, my parents have it and I drive it all the time, love it, nice ride and fits 5 adults. Don't know the price range but you might be able to get one coming off a lease.

My old roommate had the Ford Escape. I don't think it is as big as the Explorer, but it was def. a smooth ride and pretty comfy. I think it is cheaper than the explorer too..

we have a toyato 4 runner and LOVE it. the best car we have ever owned.
I think we get 15 miles a gallon on the car.
I love the 4 runner. Such a smooth ride, room inside, and the seats fold down for a little more room.

Re: Good SUV Recomendations?
15mpg ??? Holy cow, my civic spoiled me with like 38mpg
Thanks for the recommendations girls, keep em coming!
the dodge durango has a $4500 rebate right now...this could bring the 2003s to just over $20K for new...
DH and his mom have had explorers forever...
and ford is coming out with a hybrid escape...to get upto 40MPG in the city (less for highway since it works on kenetic energy in the breaking0 they should be new this year...but they are offering major rebates hoping that it will catch on...it will actually be at below cost...so ford will lose some money this year...
We have a Jeep...and I had one that lasted for 10 years before I sold it and bought this new one(5 years later)...and I love it...but may be a little too bumpy/small for the kids...although the 2004 is much better than the 1988 I had

Re: Good SUV Recomendations?
i know...15mpg really hurts...the other day we put $25 in the tank and I think it barely filled half a tank.
thats the only down part of an SUV is its a gas guzzler

I LOVE my Chevy Trailblazer.
Anna...my dad just bought the Honda Pilot, and it is really nice, and has some nice features. It has side impact airbags, and the rear windows, if they are going up, and your child puts his hands out the window..it has a sensor, and will go back down.

We have a Hylander and Love it. It is built on a Camry platform so it drives like car, not like a truck. We did have a car seat and 2 adults in the backseat, but it was a bit tight.

My brother has a Hyundai Santa Fe and he LOVES it and it has a great warranty. One of my close friends has a Suburu Forrester and she says it has been great. Family friends have had Ford Explorers and love them (the husband only gets a new one because he wants a NEW one, not because anything is ever wrong with it)

Re: Good SUV Recomendations?
Hi -
I bought a 1999 Jeep Sport right off lease last year and I love it. It has a full warranty until 2006 (or 50,000 miles). When I bought the truck it only had 15,000 miles on it and I paid under $12k for the whole package. I did a lot of research on SUV's - mileage, year, etc, and I really found what I was looking for. My advice is - if you have time, search the internet and look at local dealer websites to see what they have in stock. Everyone tells me I got a great deal for a really great price.
