gown search frustration rant
I'm just starting my gown search and already I'm frustrated!
I found a dress I ADORE by Watters, but apparently none of the stores on LI carry it. I found it for sale on a website but it has color accents and they are only selling it in one color - not the color I want.
I have an appointment at Priscilla of Boston to try on dresses on Saturday because they carry Watters dresses but when I asked them their price range it was above what Watters dresses cost according to the website!
So, I went and looked at a whole bunch of other designers websites and I just can't find any other designer that I really like! It's so frustrating... I want something much simpler and sleeker than most designers are offering - clean lines, NOT strapless, minimal beading, maybe a little touch of color, I like those that have a lace overlay... but I can't seem to find anything I like within my price range. I even looked at David's Bridal, but I didn't like what I saw. I checked out the designers that everybody is always raving about - Maggie Sottero, Jim Hjelm, Demetrios, etc... and they have beautiful gowns, but just not what I'm looking for.
I even suggested to my mom the idea of just bringing in a picture of what I like and having it custom made, but for some reason she wasn't really into that idea, and she and my dad are paying... if I can't find anything I like I might have to push the issue. Still, I hesitate to spend that much money on anything I can't try on beforehand, and I don't know of a seamstress that I would trust for this.
Sigh. I guess I'll go this Saturday to Priscilla of Boston anyway just to see what's out there and try on a few of the Watters dresses and see if it's worth looking for them elsewhere... I want to make another appointment for earlier in the day elsewhere, but I don't know where to go. Are there any other designers that are similar to Watters and not too expensive? Am I the only one who feels like nothing out there fits her vision?
Sorry that was so long, thanks for letting me rant!
