Re: grand wailea or hyatt in maui??

I am staying there in 18 days! I will post a full report when I get back! I can't wait - i had 2 good friends of mine stay there and they rave about it - the rooms are supposed to be awesome!

The Travel Channel ranked it #5 Hawaiian resort (#1 in Maui) - I hear there can be a number of kids there b'c of the massive pool complex but friends who have been there said it was fine plus they have an amazing adult pool. Here's a photo and the website - good luck!

We are staying for 6 nights and got 2 night free as part of one of their promotions!

Re: grand wailea or hyatt in maui??

Its definitely more pricey then the Hyatt- but you can check for their specials and you don't need to have a full out ocean view room there - my friends told me that all the rooms have views which are gorgeous!

Re: grand wailea or hyatt in maui??

We are staying 6 nights at the Grand Wailea and I think its 5 nights at the Hyatt in Kaui. We have friends that stayed at the Hyatt in Maui and they weren't to impressed with it.

Re: grand wailea or hyatt in maui??

I enjoyed my stay at the Grand Wailea. I would go back in a second. It is pricey but it is worth it. It is right next to the 4 Seasons (and equally expensive) although the 4 Seasons and Grand Wailea have totally different feels. The ground of the Grand Wailea are very lush...makes you get that Hawaiian feel. They have great pools and fun waterslides. I went in October of last year and I hear that was slow season so the hotel was only at 35% occupancy. The biggest negative I heard was the hotel was crowded and it tends to get alot of kids. Since it was slow season, the hotel was not crowded at all when I went. Also, there were hardly any kids at all. For some reason the only time we saw kids was on the weekend..I thought maybe they let the staff bring the family on the weekends because the resort was not crowded...but that was my philosophy.

We had a great time there. The rooms were large (bigger than the Hyatt in Kauai). We had a garden view but they did upgrade us to a partial ocean view which was really nice (DH asked at reception for the upgrade and they obliged no questions asked.). The service was fine and the restaurants were good.

It is in Wailea obviously - which is a quiet part of the island (some say with the nicest beaches on the island) so there isn't nightlife but I am not sure there are many parts with a lot of nightlife in Hawaii!

If you have any questions, I don't mind answering!

Want some pictures of the Grand Wailea? Oh yeah - it is a huge hotel... didn't mention that above but you always had your privacy!

In the lobby:

The grounds and the church taken from our room...

I think these are considered garden view

Part of the room

Pool and waterslides and water elevator

we stayed at the hyatt on maui. it was very nice but not over the top. didn't compare to the hyatt on kauai. if you can afford it, stay at the grand wailea.

Re: grand wailea or hyatt in maui??

spel - the hyatt is still gorgeous, but I think many ppl (us included!) were a bit disappointed by coming from the Hyatt on Kauai - that one is simply phenomonal, and we had REALLY high expectations of the Hyatt on Maui.

Maui Hyatt is still amazing, with a great pool and swim up bar - that was closed for construction when we where there, which added to my disappointment, but it's still an awesome hotel. Our room was even nicer there then the one on Kauai. Plus, on Maui, there's a lot more to do so you don't spend as much time at the hotel.

Don't worry, you'll love it!
