Anyone have any suggestions for granite colors to go with a cranberry cherry stain? (photos of the design in my kitchen backsplash thread)
Probably looking for something light beige with brown striations in it but im open to other ideas.

Re: Granite Colors?
You see, I would go the total opposite.. I would go with a deep dark green with black and *white* specks..

Re: Granite Colors?
Why green and white and black? Nothing in my kitchen is going to be green or white or black ... its going to be on the other side of the spectrum, warm browns and reds probably.
Anyway - I do like the dark granite but my kitchen is small and I would prefer to use something lighter to contrast with the dark wood. Or at least that is what I think...i could be swayed

Re: Granite Colors?
I always loved dark counter tops with the cherry stained cabinets...however I went into a model home recently where they had light granite and it looked AMAZING. I would agree in a small kitchen the lighter granite would be better. I wish I was in your position - I hate my formica counters

No photos but that sounds really pretty Stef. My opinion is to always stay neutral with a countertop so that you are not stuck with one color in 10 years from now. Can we all remember power blue bathrooms because the tub was power blue? Same idea.

Here is a good site I found that you can pick your cabinet color and see the granite next to it.
I cant get it to work. I get to that page and pick a cabinet color but the granite color never comes up when i click the little squares. What am i doing wrong?

I don't know what your doing wrong...it worked great for me. Maybe you just need to let it load up into your computer the first time you click on a granite color. My first choice took like a minute to load then after that it was quick.

Re: Granite Colors?
Check out Paradisio Bosh (sp?). That's the color granite I might use for my kitchen. It's a black and brownish beige-tan color. It's seems like this is kitchen season. Everyone doing their kitchens??

I agree with using a light countertop color in such a small space. I am also not a fan of 'colored' countertops-I'm always worried people will dislike it before long.
I love this granite (or something similar) to this with cherry
and after seeing your kitchen design I agree that a 4' backsplash would be perfect-it's not a large area & you may want the flexiblity of painting/repainting that surface different colors as time passes. I hope your brick wall idea works out-it sounds fantastic!

Re: Granite Colors?
Wow great site. I like the one that is called Red multi color with the cherry cabinets.
Stef, I know you are thinking about the lighter granite, but when we were going to put granite in we wanted a lighter color. My cousin told me to come over and look at the stains in his granite....he said 'Cook they are going to tell you if you seal it that it won't stain and look at ours' So I didn't want a dark countertop so we ended up going with Polished Porcelain tiles and it looks beautiful, the don't stain they don't scratch in fact when we went to Procida Tile they have it as a countertop and they guy slammed a screwdriver in it ten times to show us how strong it is.

Re: Granite Colors?
I have cherry wood cabinets and I used a blue/silver granite...let me see if I can find a pic...OKAY THIS PIC ShOWS A VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY MESSY KITCHEN...normally it's clean as a whistle!! Honestly! But I also think the warm tones would look beautiful!
Stef, All I can see is I saw it first hand at my cousins. They did have a light color granite and there are 3 stains on it. That is why we changed our mind on the granite...I wanted a light countertop! They all told us if you seal it that it won't stain, but my cousin sealed his and it still happened.

Re: Granite Colors?
They knew one stain was grape juice but they didn't know where the others came from. We had asked the same question.

Re: Granite Colors?
I know an insane amount about granite because i must have gone to so many places looking for granite when my parents were renovating the house -
Kathy116 - that looks like blue pearl - i love love that color
White-wave and Cashmere are good colors - i will try to find them -
My mom's kitchen is cashmere - it is greyish white with brown spots and some green and light purplish viens.
My mom has White wave for steps - it is beige with blackish spots and redish purplish viens - very pretty - the purple isnt emphasized at all because my mom went and chose teh granite slabs herself.
We also have verde carrera in the hallway which matches very beautifully with the white wave
I also personally love Volga Blue - it is very very dark - blackish and it has specks of blue - i love it!
THis is blue pearl - although tehre are differnet ranges of color -it depends on teh slab - it can be more grey
This is the white Kashmir that we have in teh kitchen
I cant seem to find a pic of the white wave - it is a very popular color though

Re: Granite Colors?
I guess the staining issue would be a problem no matter what then... tile grout would most certainly be stained if you left grape juice on it, right? But we dont really have that problem..we have the crappiest formica that is total garbage and falling apart, but no stains. We have no children so things like that are not an issue. But im going to ask some friends who have granite about the staining...everyone Ive spoken to says they love it but I have never specifically asked about the staining.
