DH wanted steak so i thought i'd add to it by making it with a bernaise sauce. Sounds like its harder to make than it really is...its very simple and if you have a measuring cup you can make it lol. Just thought i'd share in case anybody wanted to make something different...also made it with creamed spinach so ill include the recipe for that too, which was also very delicious and easy to make. Since most men love steak, its a way to make it a bit more fancy and impress them haha
bernaise sauce
3 tablespoons white vinegar 3 tablespoons white wine 10 peppercorns, crushed 2 tablespoons finely chopped shallots 1 tablespoon chopped tarragon 1 tablespoon water 3 egg yolks 1 cup unsalted butter, melted Salt Freshly ground black pepper 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley leaves
In a saucepan, combine the vinegar, wine, peppercorns, shallots, and tarragon. Bring the liquid to a boil and reduce to 1 tablespoon. Add 1 tablespoon of water. Add the egg yolks and whisk, over low heat, until frothy, about 3 to 4 minutes. In a steady stream, add the butter until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper. Strain the sauce through a chinois and set aside. Garnish with the parsley leaves. Yield: about 1 cup
creamed spinach recipe
2 pounds fresh spinach, washed and tough stems removed 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 cup finely chopped shallots 1 teaspoon minced garlic 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 cup heavy cream
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the spinach and cook for 2 minutes. Drain in a fine mesh strainer, pressing with a large spoon to release as much water as possible. Finely chop and set aside. Melt the butter in medium saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the shallots and garlic and cook, stirring, until soft and fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add the spinach and cook, stirring, just until the liquid is released. Add the cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg, and cook until the cream is reduced by half, about 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and serve immediately.

Re: great recipe, your fh or dh will love it
you're welcome ladies
thats why i posted jess, i love new recipes too so thought it would be helpful. Dh kept talking about the meal all night lol, i didnt just make it today, made it about 2 weeks ago but was cleaning and saw the recipe i had so thought i'd share.
Last night dh made homemade sauce, his moms recipe. He was soooo nervous but came out delicious. One thing is that he wanted to make it a little bit different than his moms, give his own touch and decided to put crushed red pepper in it. When i tasted it while it was still cooking, it was burning my throat. He was feeling so horrible and sad about it. It was delicious but alot of kick. I felt so bad that i said ill stir it for him, he went to sit down and i sat there looking for as many crushed red peppers as i could and took them out of the sauce, he has no idea. Once i did that it wasnt as spicy, but he did such a great job. Just glad he didnt catch me taking out all those red peppers lol this way he could just be proud of the sauce he made lol. My dad even came over later on and said how delicious his sauce was. Still had a kick but just a little in a good way

FH loooooves creamed spinach... whenever we go to a steakhouse, he orders a whole portion for the table for himself! I suppose I should make it for him once to get some brownie points! Thanks for the recipe!

dh would love this. I wish i liked steak but i could always make it for him and make myself chicken or something.
i actually ditched work early and came home and made dinner too I made a recipe from the NW cookbook post - chicken fettucine alfredo except I used fat free half and half instead of heavy cream and whole wheat linguine instead of fettucine. It came out awesome and it was fun to surprise him since he's the one normally home first. I wish I could do it more but oh well.
thanks for posting!

Ooh, and you made it yourself...good for you! Sounds good! We've had the one in the packet (Knorr?) and it was pretty good. It's been a long time...I'll have to try this one some time. Thanks!
Aw, he's cute with his sauce. I like to add a little crushed red pepper, too!
Did you ever try to bake one of the desserts?

ive never tried the packet ones. Yeah when he said he wanted steak i looked up recipes to see how to add something to it, it seemed easy so thought i'd try it.
A little is not bad at all, he said when he was putting some in too much fell in lol
no i havent. Everytime i wanted to and dh and i went to the supermarket he always wanted all these things for dinner so i said forget it, not going to eat cake after lol. But its funny bc i was telling dh last night that next time he makes sauce we can also try and make fresh pasta bc i noticed the kitchen aid mixer has an attachment you can make pasta with. Then i said oh and i really should make cake soon. So im going to try sometime this week when we dont have a big dinner. Hopefully this sunday i can.

Yes, this recipe seems pretty easy.
Aww.
I don't have the mixer yet, but for my shower I got the pasta attachments from two of my friends. I'm going to use a Fortunoff gift card I have from my sister to get the mixer after the wedding. Can't wait...I baked my FH cupcakes last month, and a cake a couple of weeks ago using my hand mixer. It will be so much nicer when I have the Kitchen Aid mixer. I'm trying not to bake too much right now anyway...after the wedding! Oh, let me know how you make out with the pasta if you do it!

Fresh pasta is not that hard but there are a few things to keep in mind. It's kind of an all day process-especially if you've never made it before. Also the most important thing is to let the pasta rest for about 20-30 minutes before you roll it out. Then it will be elastic-like and easy to roll out. It's so fun to make! I can't wait until FH and I have our own place and make pasta all day long. FM me if you need help or have any questions about the pasta.
