Re: Greek Brides??

anyone see Fame story last night?

Have a q for ya'? What is the deal with the three that they choose at the end of the show? Are they in the HOT seat for the next show and in do or die mode?

Re: Greek Brides??

Marcela-it's called the 'krevati'. It's a Greek tradition for the unmarried girls to make the bed for the newleyweds and also money or gold coins are thrown on the bed for good luck and prosperity. Also an infant is supposed to be rolled around on the bed and that means that the couple will be blessed with children.

Let us know how it goes!

Re: Greek Brides??

Thanks Angela. Yes, my 2 friends will make our bed and 3 babies will be rolled on the bed-- Peter's baby twin cousins and my friend's son. I can't wait. This is exciting!

Are you going to have one Angela?

Re: Greek Brides??

I didn't have one because my house was under construction and I couldn't have people over. They are alot of fun. Some of the older greek ladies might sing an old folk song too.

Re: Greek Brides??

Hi girls.. As my day is approaching, I am thinking of Greek dancing!! I have been to a few Greek weddings, where I have danced with everyone in the circle, but I am a little nervous about being the bride. I am thinking of maybe taking dance lessons, FH and I actually, but don't know if we really need to. My Greek in-laws, before the wedding, said they would have a little lesson in their home for my friends and I. They did this for my other SIL. Where do I even look for dance lesson if we decided to go that route?

Also, we are going back to Greece in one month. I know I have asked before.. but is there anything in particular I should look to purchase?

One more thing.. gifts for our koumbaro- What are you guys buying them? My FBIL and his wife is our koumbaro. I was thinking of buying her a really nice designer bag- maybe Louis Vouiton or Prada- Does the gift have to be a combined one? My other FSIL gave hers a digital camera.. but ours has all the latest stuff. I have no idea what we would buy for him.

TIA!!

Re: Greek Brides??

Congratulations Marcela. I can't wait to hear about your beautiful day.

I only had a koumbaro and I bought him a david yurman bracelet. I think a designer bag is wonderful gift...maybe you can get the guy a matching wallet or buy them something together to save cost.

As for greek dancing, check with your church...they sometimes have dance lessons available.

Good luck!

Re: Greek Brides??

Hi everyone!!!!! I didnt know everyone still posted here!!!! YYAYAYAYAY - good to see all us greekies here again.

My wedding turned out wonderful! I wish I could relive the day! I have not had much time to review the wedding and vendors, but me and my hubby were very happy!!!! Aruba was beautiful as well. We desparately needed a vacation where we can rest and Aruba was the perfect place for it. I dont have any pics yet either A few friends took pics with the digital cameras, but have not e-mailed them to me yet, and... as usual, DH has the scanner at his house so I cannot scan my proofs and other pics my friends gave me.

Our living situation... basically,, we are living with my parents right now. The co-op needed a lot of paperwork and our contractor has been pretty busy, so my poor little co-op is still in disrepair. We hope to move in within the next 2 to 3 weeks. It's not too bad at my house though... my parents were sweet to give us the second floor.

Oh, in case people were looking for an alternative to where to stay on their wedding night, we stayed at the Andrew Hotel in Great Neck and loved it! It was not the romantic setting -- frilly sheets and the like. The hotel is a four-star boutique hotel, new furniture, very modern. They cater more to the business traveler I think. They did not know we were going to be spending our wedding night there. The lady at the front desk was surprised to see me in my gown. We asked what time breakfast was, and they told us it ended at 9 am, so we laughed and said forget it! She said to call the front desk when we woke up. Next morning they told us to go to the cafeteria. They had set up breakfast just for us... it was very nice ANyway, check them out if you need a place to stay. I was very happy with the place.

Re: Greek Brides??

Marcela's wedding:

We missed the ceremony because we had to go to Brooklyn, but went to the reception. Marcela looked so beautiful! Her dress was gorgeous, make-up, hair, everything! And so were the bridesamid dresses. DH and I had a wonderful time (Thanks Marcela!). Lots of dancing and drinking and eating.

It's funny because our wedding flew by for us - I can't remember even half of it- so it was great to go to Marcela and Peter's because it took us back to ours and made us feel all the emotions we felt on our wedding day all over again, but without all the nervousness.

Re: Greek Brides??

Did any of you girls go to the Anna Vissi concert at the Beacon Theater? I just got back from it and it was incredible!! I have seen her many times before and this was one of her best performances. Patricia Field (she designs the clothes for Sex and the City) was there too and Anna was wearing one of her designs.

koumbaroi

We got our Koumbaro and Koumbara each a piece of jewelry and we also got them a bombonaira (vase) for the house. They went to a great expense for us and paid for all the traditional items.

Re: Greek Brides??

We are probably getting our koumbaro a tiffany money clip (its the gift we are giving all the groomsmen) and we also are going to get him and his fiance (she is a BM) either a Waterford crystal bowl or candlestick holders... or a crystal from Tiffanys -

I'm leaning toward Waterford because i think they have better quality crystal
