Re: Greek Brides??
I can't decide whether I like Maro or not. Sometimes she says things that are just so dumb, she should know better, she's 33! I can't believe how understanding her husband was after all her flirting.Did you watch the episode last night? I usually don't stay up, but I wasn't at all tired yesterday so I watched it. The first 10 minutes of the show was Ioanna & Apostolia, right after the concert-backstage gossiping about how they think they are better than others-I guess they never heard of being modest.
I hope Apostolia gets sent home on Sunday!!

Georgia - It's my favorite show, it's kind of like the Real World & American Idol wrapped up into one.
It's on Antenna (channel 605 on Dish network), Mon-Fri at 11:00 PM & Sun at 9:40 PM-not sure about the time on Sat.
Weeknights is the reality show, where they show day to day activities of everyone, including their voice & dance lessons, interactions with eachother & the instructors & on occassion they will surprise them with a famous singer who comes to give them advice. The Sunday show is the best part, everyone performs the song that they were given at the beginning of the week in front of a live audience & a panel of 4 judges their performance, it's so full of drama though because Andreas Mikroutsikos is the host and he's a troublemaker.
One person is kicked off every Sunday & 2 are nominated-one of which will leave the next week. The viewers decide who stays by calling in throughout the week.
Thanos, the guy who sings that new song Kokkino, was one of the winners from Fame Stroy last year.

Re: Greek Brides??
Hmmm... Now i think I have to watch too. I have caught a couple of weeknight epi(s) but not having seen it from the beginning, I was having a hard time following. But, I was at my FSIL Bridal Shower this weekend, and everyone was talking about it.
Do you girl still have to pick out favors? I was in Noufaro this weekend and I saw an idea that I just loved.
I'm not going to broadcast all over the place, b/c frankly I might want to use it sometime, but if you fm me i'll tell you.

Re: Greek Brides??
Hi girls, I need help!!! Any suggestions for what to do on mother's day?? I still haven't bought a gift for either mom & I still don't know where we should take them out for a late lunch on Sunday!! Every place I checked with is booked! I don't want to just go to any old restaurant, I want to go somewhere really nice. The Garden City Hotel would have been perfect, they do a Sunday brunch but it's booked!! Do you think it would be terrible of us to just give our moms a gift this Sunday & take them out to eat next Sunday??

My parents are going to greece this summer so I am going to give $$ to my mom b/c she wants to buy a nice every day bag and I figured she could put it towards that. Unfortunatley Saturday night is not an option. My mom is going to a bridal shower in the afternoon & I doubt she'll be up for going out at night also.

Re: Greek Brides??
well, why don't you try to cook for her instead. And go all out as best as you can? Or rain check it and make reservations at the hotel brunch for the next weekend? Also, try to find something important to her. Like my mom loves it if we attend church with her on mother's day. Maybe even getting her a corsage to wear around to honor her.

Re: Greek Brides??
Eleni - I though about inviting everyone over to FH apartment & cooking for our parents, but to tell you the truth, I'm not very good at cooking, especially not for more than 2 people. I have to start slowWe're going to a restaurant near my house, it wasn't my first choice but I was able to make reservations! They weren't booked. Besides, my mom's always said that she wanted to try this place but she never got around to it. I've been there many time and it's really good. I just hope my mil will like it...
Now I just have to find a gift for both moms.

Re: Greek Brides??
I have a question girls -FH and I are going to be a child's godparents. We are getting the child something so that we can asimosi the baby. Is there a timeline that that should be done? I've been very busy with school ( in the middle of finals now) and FH has been busy with work and classes that he needs to take) - so we've kinda slacked on it. The baby will be 40 days soon and FH says that it will be embarassment if we dont get something before they take the child to church. I would rather not rush and take a litle more time to get something perfect.
What is the proper etiquette on this?

Re: Greek Brides??
Angela - i just came across this when i was researching the answer to my above question - what have you decided to do?MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS IN THE CHURCH
'In her love and understanding, our Holy Orthodox Church has allowed for the use of the organ for the processional and recessional at weddings, as this is part of the American wedding traditions. No other instruments - trumpet, violin, etc., are to be used for weddings or any other Orthodox Sacrament or Service.' (From Diocese of Chicago Encyclical of August 1, 1990.)

Hi my friend is baptizing her baby and was wondering if I could get her a program (like the wedding one) that explains the greek orthodox ceremony. I know some of you are going to be nones.
I just found something that might help -
The Baptism
The Blessing of the water begins with a Doxology (Blessed is the Kingdom of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and unto the ages of ages) which announces the Kingdom of God as the theme, the content, and the ultimate goal of Baptism. The Sacrament of Baptism begins the spiritual journey of the soon to be enlightened Christian, and the initial doxology reveals and announces its final destination: the Kingdom of God.
Following the initial petitions and prayers blessing the water, the pre-baptismal anointing with olive oil takes place. Oil has always been a religious symbol. It is a natural source of light and joy, and in ancient times was primarily used as medicine. In the case of baptism, it is the sickness of sin from which we are being healed. Oil is also known as the symbol of reconciliation and peace. We thank God over the oil and therefore make it again what God has made it: a gift of healing, a gift of peace, a gift of spiritual power and life. The priest makes the sign of the cross in the water with the oil three times and anoints the person who is to be baptized on their brow, their breast, their ears, their hands, their feet and their back. The candidate is baptized with the triple immersion in the name of the Holy Trinity, during which the entire Church 'seals' each with an 'Amen.'
The Sacrament of Chrismation
Immediately following the triple immersion Baptism, the newly baptized receives the Sacrament of Chrismation, the seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit. This sacrament is the fulfillment of Baptism and signifies the participation of everyone who is baptized into the Spirit of Pentecost, consecrating the person as the Temple of the Holy Spirit. (The material of the Holy Chrism is made of 49 aromatic substances which symbolize the infinite Gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is prepared every ten years on Holy Thursday in a special service at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in the presence of representatives of all the Orthodox Patriarchates.)
The priest also cuts hair from the infant's head in the form of a cross. This is done on behalf of the child who offers a gift to God to thank Him for the great blessings which has been received. A white garment, symbolizing purity and righteousness is placed upon the newly baptized along with the Baptismal Cross.
The celebrant leads the newly baptized with their sponsor(s) in a circular procession around the baptismal font, while the congregation chants the verse from Saint Paul's Epistle to the Galatians (3. 27): 'All those who have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ forever, Alleluia!'
The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist
Finally, the newly baptized partakes of the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. By partaking of Holy Communion, the child becomes part of the Church or Ekklesia. Here, everyone gathers to participate in the baptismal liturgy and to witness the Sacraments of Baptism, Chrismation and Holy Eucharist in celebration of the 'new life' offered in Christ to the newly baptized. This gathering serves also as a reminder that each of us is continually renewed through the partaking of Holy Communion and we, along with the newly baptized, are continually offered 'new life' in Christ!

Does the organist at least know how to play different music other than here comes the bride?
