Re: Greek Brides Thread
Hi all,I haven't been on the board much, however next week I am going to be baptized into the Greek Church so my FH and I can marry next year. I am church of England so we couldn't marry in the Greek church. I am starting to get really nervous. I have to wear a white gown and will be baptized in a large adult size font. I am looking forward to being the same religion as my FH I just feel a little apprehensive about the ceremony. It will just be close family but I still think I will feel a bit embarrassed. It is going to be at the new Orthodox church in Upper Brookville. It is beautiful inside and every time I am there I picture myself in my wedding gown next year and remember that it will be worth it.

Hi Philippa...welcome and congrats! I witnessed an adult baptism yeeeears ago at St. Catherine's Church in Astoria. It was absolutely beautiful! Don't worry everything will be fine and there's nothing to be embarrased about. The ceremony is pretty interesting so hopefully that will take your mind off of your nerves. If I remember correctly it really wasn't very long anyway.

Thank you,I will try not to worry so much. The priest is very nice, very kind and welcoming. I have had a lot of lessons to prepare me, i think it is just because it is almost here. I'll let you know how it goes.

Let me know how it goes!!
I still haven't found anyone either!!
I remember my cousin using Helen many years ago and she was happy with her--but she did mention the fact that she takes her time!

My FH wants our invitations to be in both English and Greek. Does anyone know any places that have nice invitations that will print in both languages on the same side of the invitation?
You could try Markella's in Astoria, i know they sell invitiations, just dont know if they do both languages. It is worth a try though.

Hi, My FH is GO and I'm Catholic. We are getting married in the GO church (St. Paraskevi's in Greenlawn). How much do they charge if you're not a member of the parish? Also, does anyone know of a Greek/Italian DJ?
Thanks, Maria

Re: Greek Brides Thread
Hi Girls,I am back on the board and wanted to let you know that I had my Baptism on Sunday at the Church of the Holy Resurrection in Brookville. It was a really beautiful service so full of symbols and so meaningful that I felt very lucky to have been welcomed into the Greek Orthodox faith.
I can't wait to get married next year in the same church.
Ok so I need some advice not related to weddings. Next week i will go to church to receive communion. However next Sunday is also my Fiances Mothers 6 month memorial. I feel it is inappropriate to go in my ivory suit to receive communion but strictly I should. I feel that I should where black but I don't want to cause any reason for people to talk about my family or me. I have asked the priest and he said that It is proper to wear the suit and not worry if people think I am being inappropriate. Any advice? The memorial is at Saint Irenes in Astoria so they are particularly strict with regard to the Orthodox Faith.
Thanks

Re: Greek Brides Thread
Hi OK I think I confused my post. I was given an ivory suit to wear after my baptism. When an infant is baptized they wear their new outfit each time they receive communion. I am told it is three times after the baptism. I was just torn between following the priests advice who baptized me or wearing a black suit in respect of my FH mother. I think your right I should go with the black suit. I just don't want to offend anyone. Thanks

Re: Greek Brides Thread
UK2USbride maybe I might be too late, but I think it is more likely that you would offend people and their feelings of mourning by not wearing black rather than God by not wearing ivory. Also, deep purple is a color of mourning as well in the GO faith.
But, honestly, I would talk to your FH and weigh his feelings on the matter as most important. It was his Mom after all. May her memory be eternal!

I wish I had done a Do Not play list.

I am in the process of looking for my GO church for my ceremony. What has everyone's experience been as far as what ceremony music is allowed? Are most GO churches very restrictive?

It has been my experience that the GO church only allows organ music. Good Luck with your planning and I'd be happy to help if you have any other questions.

I agree that it is most often only organ music - or alternatively a choir. However, my brother did get married in a church in Rye (i cant seem to remmeber the name fo the church) - and they allowed a recording that my sister-in-law had which included pachabel's cannon and another classical song
