Re: Greek Brides Thread

Thanks that sounds good. We have 4 couples, plus our koumbari.. but they are getting different gifts than the rest of the bridal party. I like the wristlets... and the price.

Re: Greek Brides Thread

You can even do simple pieces of jewelry from Tiffany...silver of course, but really nice... may be a little more than wristlets, but not too much... and for guys, money clips from tiffany...

just a thought, i'm thinking of more... lol

Re: Greek Brides Thread

I bought my bridesmaids jewelry from www.carriedmader.com

They wore it on the day of the wedding and i know that the girls have worn them on several occassions since the wedding. She customizes the jewerly to anything you want I loved them!

For the guys - we got the groomsmen engraved silver money clips from fortunoff and we got our koumbaro a silver and gold engraved money clip with matching cuff links.

please help a non-greek bridetobe!

hey, ya'll,

i'm actually from texas, and my FH is greek; as in, his dad is actually from greece, moved here when he was 21. his mother is not greek, but they met in texas, got married, etc. i am presbyterian; i dont mind getting baptized to be married to this man, or even having a greek wedding, but i really really really want to say vows at my wedding, and i heard the services are really long, and i dont want the services to be in greek because the only greek guests will be like five people because my FH's dad was an only child with both parents deceased! HELP me someone, i know nothing!!! i really honestly wanted a joint ceremony, but i dont think ya'll do those...do you? are there really liberal greek orthodox priests who would do that? please help me!!!!! this is the only thing my FH and i have ever actually fought seriously about in three years! help!!!!!

oh, and we dont know when our wedding is, so that's why i put 1/1/2011, ha ha...it'll be in the next year sometime.

Re: Greek Brides Thread

Red,

First of all the ceremony will last only about 45 minutes. Depending on what church or the location you go to they may combine both greek and english (that's how my church is but i'm from NJ) You can also ask your preist to consider the guests that do not speak greek and i'm sure he could modify it. As for vows, I doubt that is going to happen, I have never heard of a liberal 'orthodox' priest-- i think those two words are complete opposites, like rich and poor,. There is a link, i believe its earlier in this thread that explains the ceremony in more detail. Let me take a look for you...

kalo tixi .. good luck

or just look at Gn1125's post on page 3 I believe.

Re: Greek Brides Thread

thank you so much, honeybee;

you sound knowledgeable about this, so what about the rings? i always though it was the left hand, but i keep reading about the right hand; how much greek is spoken? is there a way that the greek priest could do the ceremony and then my pastor (like, before we walk down the aisle out of the church) could do a blessing/exchange of vows? in the greek church? is that not allowed? i'm so confused; thank ya'll for all your help with a clueless nongreek bride!!!

I'm not an expert, I read in the posts above that a Catholic priest could do a blessing, etc but what type of Pastor do you have, for what church? CHeck out that link it might help you more than I can. I think it varies from church to church, i'm not sure maybe one of the other girls could help.

As far as rings, traditionally in Greece I think Greeks wear their wedding rings on their right hand. Now since we live in America you pretty much do what you want. Believe it or not my brother wears his on his right hand but my sis in law wears hers on her left--my brother claims its tradition, but really its just that he didn't want to get his ring resized it never fit! haha

but seriously do some internet research there are websites for the greek orthodox archdioses of america or something like that maybe you can email someone.

Re: Greek Brides Thread

Hi girls,

I'm actually thinking about booking Somethin' Special for June of '06. I viewed a few tapes of his and I really liked what I saw, but I have never been to an actual wedding that they have played at. Did he supply you with any references by chance?, or have you been to a few events that he's played at?

Does anyone else on this thread know anything, good or bad about Somethin' Special?

Re: Greek Brides Thread

I booked them b/c they played at my brother's wedding a few years ago. Tell him I sent you (i'lll FM you my last name). He is really nice I can give you his contact info if you like. When I booked i mentioned to him that my fiance had never heard them play before (even though I have a copy of my brother's wedding video). So he burned me a dvd of a few songs that they did. They really are professional and very talented. FM me if you want more info.

Hi Irene-- i haven't thought about that.. What type of music are you going for? Classical? what would that sound like on an organ?

I have no clue All I know is when we booked St. Nick's they said we could pay a certain amount (can't remember right now exactly how much) for an organist. For the life of me I can't remember what's been done at Greek weddings I've attended.
