Often its used for the RD, but can be given out at the wedding in a box for after the wedding. Its more a sourthern tradition. Or so I'm told. I'm using one for my RD. I think its nice. The reason I choose agaist giving it at the wedding is one, everyone is going to be full and they'll be taking home favors, candy, a CP, stationary from place cards, programs, etc... So I'll just be another annoying thing to carry. Plus their be full after eating all that food Also theres the fact that you have to buy more cake and boxes. So if you do a groom cake, I suggest for the RD.

Re: grooms cake
I was just looking up groom's cakes last night.... in the tradition, single women are supposed to bring it home in a box and sleep with it under their pillow... I'm just going to do it for show...

Re: grooms cake
I want to do this for the RD. My FI was interested in a chocolate cake for the wedding, but is fine going the more traditional way. So I want to surprise him. Does anyone have any funky pics of choc cakes - wedding-like but not too much? Thanks!

Re: grooms cake
Check out Audrey's Bakery in Sayville (they are listed with the vendors). They have lots of ideas and they will do just about anything you want. I have seen posts where they made firetruck, car, and beer can cakes. A friend of mine had a yankee jersey. Oh, and the cakes are DELICIOUS!

Re: grooms cake
Having its roots in Southern tradition, the groom’s cake has been around for quite some time and is making a fashionable comeback on the wedding scene.
Traditionally, a groom’s cake was sliced and boxed for the unmarried girls attending the wedding to take home and place under their pillows in hopes that the man they dreamed of would be their future husband. Groom’s Cake has come along way since then. Today the cake is meant to be a reflection of the groom’s interests, whether it be one of his hobbies, favorite sport, alma mater, profession, etc..
It’s a personal choice when to serve the cake - either at the rehearsal dinner, as an alternate dessert with the wedding cake, or as a late night dessert for the wedding party. Just because primarily groom cakes tend to be a fruit cake or a chocolate cake shouldn’t dictate what the bride and groom should have. Obviously being named “Groom’s Cake” it should be a flavor and theme that the groom enjoys. The following are some examples of how that was achieved:
