not sure the point of it...I guess so that he has his own cake...I am not having one but I have seen cars, sports teams, fishing, etc. types of cakes. They are cute...but I am sure it is expensive and if it isn't really needed then I am not having it....

This is what I found

Having its roots in Southern tradition, the groom's cake has been around for quite some time and is making a fashionable comeback on the wedding scene.

Traditionally, a groom's cake was sliced and boxed for the unmarried girls attending the wedding to take home and place under their pillows in hopes that the man they dreamed of would be their future husband. Groom's Cake has come along way since then. Today the cake is meant to be a reflection of the groom's interests, whether it be one of his hobbies, favorite sport, alma mater,profession, etc..

My best friend is a pastry chef and she is making my FH's groom cake. I haven't figured it all out yet but it is going to have to do with the FDNY, the Yankees and NYC

I made one for my sister for her husband. It was a roulette wheel. If I do say so myself, it was awesome. We had it at the rehearsal dinner. I'm planning on making Yankee Stadium for FH.

I think that I'm going to have the grooms cake at the reception. I think that it's special to suprise each other with things on the wedding day!

Re: Grooms cake??

Popular tradition in Victorian Times was to break the wedding cake over the heads of the Bride and Groom.

The Groom’s Cake of today, however, gives the couple-to-be the opportunity to add an element of the groom’s personality and individuality to the meal that is typically not afforded them by the “traditional” Wedding Cake. While most Wedding Cakes may look somewhat alike, most Groom’s Cakes do not.

The top of a Groom’s Cake may depict a particular interest or hobby of the groom’s – fishing, sports car racing, fine wines, gardening, chess, skiing – anything you can think of.

here are a number of options for how the Groom’s Cake can be displayed and served:

* have the Groom’s Cake at the Rehearsal Dinner and the Wedding Cake at the wedding;
* display and serve the Groom’s Cake right alongside the Wedding Cake;
* the Wedding Cake and Groom’s Cakes can be displayed separately and served separately, with the Wedding Cake cutting ceremony typically going first;
* partake of the Groom’s Cake after-hours with just the wedding party.

it is a cake that you give FH for the RD, and you can do what ever you want. Say your FH loves The giants for say you can get a cake made out of a giants helmet. It pretty cool, i think that im going to do that

Re: Grooms cake??

im doing a grooms cake but only because fh eats dark chocolate cakes with only chocolate icing.. and nothing else. and personally.. i dont want a brown wedding cake, so we compromised and he said if he can get a grooms cake then i can pick out the cake for everyone else. so im happy about that. otherwise i wouldnt waste the money.
