Personally, I look at a groom's cake to be one of the added expenses at a wedding that won't be missed if you decide not to do it. Depending on the budget I may get one for FH for the RD but I don't think he would miss it if I just got a regular cake instead.

Those are all really cool...but someone told me to stay away from fondant icing which is what they use to make alot of the grooms cakes...I wonder if they could do it with another frosting.

nothing is wrong with just one cake..but my fh is pretty much letting me pick EVERYTHING for the wedding...this would be a nice way to show him the day is about BOTH of us. Plus, I wanted to surprise him. Its definitely not necessary, but in my case it would be a nice touch because he would love it.

When I heard grooms cake it makes me think of the part in the movie Steal Magnolias.
They had a giant armadillo with grey icing, and sally fields character goes 'how do you make grey icing' in a southern accent lol.
