Groom's Cake Dilemma

Groom's Cake Dilemma

I am starting to think that spending $150 on a groom's cake is a bit excessive. Nevermind the fact that the bakery I was working with is not returning my emails or phone calls. Do you think it is possible to make it myself? I mean, it wouldnt be in the shape of a car like I wanted but I can make a big sheet cake and decorate it with an NYPD theme. Where could I get little cop decorations? Thanks!

I would make it yourself. We had the exact same dilemma and we just didnt have the money for a grooms cake in the end. Party City I believe sells car shaped cake pans!

You could also have a cake made with the image of FH's car - that's what I'm going to do

i say take a picture of a cop car, and have them scan the image of it onto the cake, something like that.
I was gonna do a grooms cake but $$ its not worth it to me at this point.

Yes, I plan on taking a picture of FH's guitar and getting it scanned on a BJ's cake. The cake from there is so good and I'll save well over 100 dollars.

I agree with the girls! Get a picture cake made at costco or BJ's. They look so nice and are less than $20. Did you leave a deposit with the bakery?

no deposit required at Costco.

No I didnt give a deposit or sign anything. It's weird becuase I planned to get the chocolate fountain too and they arent calling me back so now they miss out on like $750.

So what do you do? Go to Costco with a picture of whatever and they just put it on there?

This is what we did. We got a huge sheet cake from BJ's. It tasted sooo good and it could feed an army. I think we paid $19.99 and they scanned one of our Epics, blew it up a little and put it on the cake ( the picture is actually edible) I am still trying to get someone to email me pics of it from the RD b/c I forgot my camera

basically you choose the pic, give it to the bakery they'll scan it on to the cake and its all edible, heres an example i found online

Wow great idea ladies. I also wanted a yankee cake that was going to be $150 or so. I think it is a waste of money. This scanned picture cake idea is genius. Thanks!

Re: Groom's Cake Dilemma

are you having the cake at your wedding or RD? my catering hall said that we can't bring a cake that is not from a licensed baker so i would check with them before you decide to make it yourself...

Re: Groom's Cake Dilemma

Sorry to bring this up again but I went to Costco last night and they dont do it. They only had the regular cakes that have icing designs...
What am I going to do?

Maybe check out a regular bakery? They can probably do it. Why don't you check out Sapienza's on Hempstead Tpke? My FH and I were just in there last week and I think (but I could be wrong) that they had pics of cakes with scanned pictures on them.
