Groomsmen/usher

can there be a difference between the 2

i have 2 guy friends that i want a part of me wedding
i would love for them to be ushers at the church (excort people to there seats) but not be groomsmen in the wedding.
Is that possible and wont look bad or do the groomsmen usally do the excorting
