guest book alternative question

Ok, my FH was iffy about this idea so he asked me to post here and see what you ladies have to say!

Instead of a guest book, I was thinking of asking our guests ahead of time to send us a favorite memory with myself, my FH or both. (I realize that a bunch of people won't respond...) Then I thought we'd put the stories in a nice scrapbook and leave it on display for the guests to browse through at the wedding. (Although hopefully they won't have time b/c they'll be too busy dancing - and the book will be edited for bad frat stories!) I thought it would be a nice collection of stories to have....

What do you think? Thanks!

thats a nice idea!! But I suggest laying out the pages so more then one person can look at one time. And maybe leave space for people to put int their thoughts for the day?

That's really nice!! I'll be asking my guests to either bring an old photo of them with FH or I or a picture of them that I will then have the guest book attendant place into a covered scrapbook (mom's covering it with satin and tulle) and each guest will be asked to write a little something.. whether it be their names or just congrats..

I'm either doing that or a treasure/wishing chest/ capsule where people will write down their predictions and FH and I will not open it up until our first wedding anniversary..

I asked guests to bring pictures in the invites...but only about 10 people did...we also set up a polaroid by the guest book so that people could take a picture of themselves...

I'm a picture freak and I love your idea!! Will the album be a regular photo album with the pull back clear plastic and the sticky page?

You can do the regular album with the sticky pages, but I'm not sure the ink will stick .. but you provide cut up pieces of nice paper where they can write something, you know??

I recently did this exact thing for my girlfriend (I was the MOH) -- except it was a surprise. It came out beautifully and they were so happy! I was worried people would think it was corny, but everyone seemed to love it. The only bad things: (1) it actually cost a lot of money between the nice paper, postage (each was .60 to send), and binding; (2) only about 40% of the people sent the pages back. But then when everyone saw it at the wedding they wished they had participated. I think its a really nice momento, just plan to still be getting stuff at/after the wedding.
