Guest List - Best way to...

best way i cut my list down was by cutting out the single people's guests.. I know it sounds terrible, but my place is a bit TOO pricey... and I know that most singles would get a random date just to bring a date... and never see that person again! I cant afford guests I dont know

I tried to cap the list at 150 but FMIL has 70 ppl. I am jsut not adding anymore. We are paying for everything so I have spoken to my side and his side and said we can't afford more people.

Do your best and don't worry about affending anyone. You close friends and family are the most important.

ETA: The problem with cutting people is that people talk and then the ones that went to the wedding are going to be like 'oh wasnt so and so's wedding fantastic' and then they are going to say..'Oh I never got an invitation...'

Spinoff -

What if i have some friends in the same group (sorority)- and Some have BF and Some don't --Shouldn't who ever have a BF take a date and who ever is single be single???? Thats what my thougths are...

OK......everyone goes through this.....the way that we handled it, was we made one HUGE list of EVERYONE that we want.
THen, we went through the list and asked ourselves.....'Who really NEEDS to see us be married.'
Check those off first.....then see how many spots you have left and fill them accordingly.

Yep. and thats how gossip starts. But I like what one of the posters posted above. I hate the Mr. smith & guest thing... I mean the guest may be someone that just started dated Mr. Smith, or someone Mr. Smith just started dating that you dont even know..and ur going to be paying good money for that person (that you hardly know) eat at your wedding! It just sounds ridicules to me...I really dont want to do....I only want really close family and friends...yknow if you are engaged or dating a person for years...I dont mind inviting you..

I told all set of parents to write a list of everyone they wanted. Then FH and I wrote our lists. I compiled them all and came up with the big #. We decided no more than 126 ppl (ourselves included). We also decided that all guests are being invited with dates.

From there we broke the lists down into A,B, and C. A for us is must have, B is nice to have and C is work ppl. We listed B and C list in order of 'importance' to us. We had all of our ivites and calligraphy done already.

For every no or every 2 'comming without date' responses we will drop one more invite in the mail.

Everyone that our parents have added have gone on either the bottom of the B or C list. Anyone that we have added has been added to the B list where we felt they belonged. NOONE can be added to the A list. If we didn't think of them yet they are obviously not that important to us.

Do you all think I am harsh? We are paying and had to draw the line somewhere.
